Tony Luck, Alumni Association chair.

Wow, it’s already been a year since I was elected the chair of your Alumni Association and
what a year it has been. From the retirement of UFV president and vice-chancellor
Skip Bassford, to the hiring of new UFV president and vice-chancellor
Mark Evered, to the
latest Party on the Green, the Alumni board and office staff have been very busy.
The Alumni Association board of directors has been working hard to ensure we stay
true to our mission and the association’s ongoing advancement. We are now over
24,000 alumni strong, and we’re all making a difference in some way throughout the world
and in our own backyard.
A perfect example of an alumna making a difference is our 2009 Distinguished Alumni
Award recipient, the late
Autumn Jenkinson, whom we honoured posthumously for her
outstanding achievements and character. You can read more about Autumn in this issue.
The Alumni Association is also proud to acknowledge our student award recipients for
the Alumni Association Leadership awards:
Michael Johnson (Faculty of Trades and
Technology) and
Tyler Klassen (Faculty of Arts), as well as
Theresa Fresco, the recipient
of our Graduate Leadership award.
A big highlight for everyone this year was the hiring of the university’s new president
and vice-chancellor,
Dr. Mark Evered. It was a real pleasure this past spring to sit down with
Mark as a board and formally introduce him to the alumni association through a reception
where we where able to present a history and overview of the association. Mark was genuinely impressed and is a real advocate. He understands the importance of alumni and looks forward to working with us to engage alumni more fully.
As an association, we are always looking to have new people join. I truly appreciate
everyone for their support and in particular the UFV Alumni Association board of
directors and Alumni office staff. They are a great group of individuals who work hard
with your interest in mind to build a strong and vibrant association.
We wish you continued success in your career and life choices and we hope to see
you soon at one of our many events.
