Bio

Currently in his ninth year as a Canadian University coach Barnaby Craddock has seen success follow him through a wide variety of coaching positions across Canada and Internationally.

In four seasons as the head Coach of the UFV Cascades Men’s Basketball program Coach Craddock has guided the program to three playoff appearances, and a historic rise to the top tiers of Canadian university men’s basketball programs.  The most recent 2010-11 season saw the Cascades finish the year in 7th place out of 14 teams, and qualified for the playoffs for the 3rd time in four years. 

During the previous season (2009-10) the then young and upcoming Cascades started to put their mark on the Canada West Conference, as they qualified for the playoffs for the second time in three years, finishing 5th out of 14 teams (11-7).

Prior to joining the Cascades, Craddock spent two years as the Head Coach at Brandon University. In 2006-07, he led the Bobcats to the CIS National Championship tournament where Brandon earned a silver medal, losing by three points (52-49) in a hard-fought National Championship final.

One of the youngest coaches to receive national coach of the year honours, Craddock was named Canadian University Coach of the Year by the CIS in 2006-07. He was also recognized by Canada West as Coach of the Year after leading the Bobcats to a conference-best 20-2 record.

Coach Craddock’s success is not just limited to the university ranks.  This past year of 2011 Craddock was the Assistant coach with Canada Basketball’s Development team, which won a Silver medal at the World FISU games In Shenzhen, China.

Prior to his role with the Canadian national program coach Craddock was the head coach on multiple provincial teams throughout Canada; Most recently leading the British Columbia U17 boys’ team to a Bronze medal in 2010.

Craddock’s coaching career began while he was playing professionally in Europe. His resume includes head, assistant and player-coach positions with men’s and women’s senior and developmental teams in several European countries.

As a player Craddock spent seven years playing professionally in Europe, earning playoff MVP honours in Norway (2001) and Ireland (2002). A two-time Canada West All-Star (1995-96, 1996-97) and CIS All-Canadian at the University of Lethbridge (1996-97), his playing career also included stops in Germany, Portugal, France, Holland, Spain and Iceland.

After his time in Europe, Craddock returned to Canada and began his CIS coaching career as an assistant at the University of Lethbridge and the University of Winnipeg. During this time, Craddock earned his NCCP Level III certification and was the head coach of two provincial development teams in Alberta and Manitoba.

A Vancouver native, Craddock holds a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from the University of Lethbridge and is completing his NCCP Level IV certification and NCI Coaching diploma.

Al Tuchscherer has completed eight seasons as head coach of the UFV women's basketball program.

Last year Coach Tuchscherer led the young Cascades to the inagrual CIS Regional Tournament in Fredericton, NB.  The Cascades improved by 10 wins in 2010-11 and return the majority of that team in 11-12.

Tuchscherer took over the head coaching duties in 2002 and proceeded to lead UCFV to back-to-back-to-back BCCAA Championships. The Cascades also advanced to four-straight CCAA Championships, winning one silver and two bronze medals.

During his four seasons in the BCCAA, Tuchscherer compiled a remarkable 71-1 regular season record and an overall mark of 87-7.

UFV joined the CIS in 2006-07 where Tuchscherer led the Cascades to back-to-back appearances in the Canada West playoffs in 2007 and 2008. During its rookie season, UCFV became one of the first expansion schools to earn a playoff berth in its inaugural campaign.

In 2008-2009, the Cascades dressed many rookies, and finished the season with four wins in 23 games.

Tuchscherer is a three-time BCCAA Coach of the Year, a two-time CCAA Coach of the Year and BC Basketball Coaching Excellence Award winner.

A native of Pitt Meadows, B.C., Tuchscherer serves as an instructor in UCFV's Kinesiology department. He was head coach at Pitt Meadows Secondary (1992-96) before joining the Cascades.

Tuchscherer graduated from UCFV with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics. He is also a graduate of Simon Fraser University's Professional Development Program in Teacher's Education.

Tuchscherer lives in Chilliwack with his wife Denise, who is also an assistant coach with the Cascades. The couple has two children, Deanna (7) and Julia (3).

Bio
Chris Bertram completed his seventh season as head coach of the golf program in 2011-12.

The UFV Kinesiology faculty member guided the Cascades to a medal at both the BCCAA and CCAA Championships this season. The Cascades won silver at the provincial championships, and made it tthree-straight podium finishes at nationals with a silver medal showing.

In their record setting 2008-09 season, the Cascade men's golf team finished no worse than 3rd in any event they entered, and won several team and individual championships. For their accomplishments, the Cascade golfers were recognized for a 2nd straight season in the Abbotsford Sport Wall of Fame.

Dr. Bertram is the Director of UFV's Human Performance Centre where he conducts research on methods of improving the golf swing as well as how the nervous system learns and controls motor skills. Dr. Bertram currently sits on the Editorial Board for the Annual Review of Golf Coaching and has recently published a chapter in Science and Golf V.

Dr. Bertram has a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and a Ph.D from Simon Fraser University.

Liz Chisholm wrapped up her ninth season as Head Coach of the Varsity Rowing Program at University of the Fraser Valley. Chisholm is the only coach the club has known as the program was started by the-then Athletics Director, Jane Antil in 2001, and Liz was named Head Coach.

In the summer of 2005 Chisholm received Sport BC's Community Sport Hero, the first time Sport BC has handed out the awards. In addition to coaching UFV, Chisholm was also an active volunteer coach with the Fraser Valley Rowing Club. She was one of 10 recipients of the award, that year.

In 2006, Chisholm was honoured at the Rowing B.C. Annual General Meeting with the prestigious President's Award. The annual award is given to an individual who has made a significant impact on the growth of and standards within the sport of rowing.

In 2008-09, Liz, a Level 3 coach, was honoured by the Canadian University Rowing Association as Coach of the Year-Women's Programs. At the 2009, Sport BC Awards, Liz was honoured with a President's Award-Rowing.

UFV Rowers have competed in the Canadian University Rowing Championships since 2004 – in that year placing 10th, out of the 19 university programs across Canada. In '05, the Men's lightweight double attended the prestigious Head of the Charles, in Boston, Mass, placing 2nd to Harvard's crew. In that same year, the Women's lightweight double placed first in the B Final of Canadian University Rowing Championships. In 2009, UFV's top female rower was selected for Team BC's entry in the Canadian Summer Games '09.

Alan Errington finished his sixth season as head coach of the UFV men's soccer program in 2010.

Mr. Errington has had coaching experience at all levels of the game.

From amateur to professional teams, Errington has had success at all levels.

His coaching career began with the BC Provincial Program, where he has guided the teams to four National Championships with Under-16 and Under-18 teams.

From there, Errington was coach at the Vancouver Whitecaps from 1978-1982 and was inducted into the BC Sports Hall of Fame with the 1979 Soccerbowl Champions. Errington was coach of the Reserve Team Program until 1982, during which time he was responsible for the development of young players, many of whom progressed to play in the NASL first-division teams, both with the Whitecaps and around the league.

He was a staff coach with Canada's World Cup team that played in the 1986 World Cup Finals in Mexico.

Errington has coached with the Canadian Youth Team and moved up to coach alongside Bob Lenarduzzi as Assistant Coach with the World Cup and Olympic Teams from 1988-1996.

He was Lenarduzzi's Assistant Coach with the Vancouver 86ers from 1986-1988, winning four consecutive championships and a North American championship. The team also made the record books with a 46-game undefeated streak.

Errington was inducted into the BC Sports Hall of Fame again, with the 86ers team for its 1989 season record.

Next up was a coaching stint with the Abbotsford Soccer Club, where his Under 17-18 team won back-to-back provincial and national championships, the first team in Canada to do so in the history of the competition.

Errington then turned his efforts to coaching at the university level and has been here at UFV for five years, the last three of those years have been at the CIS level.

He will be Assistant Coach at this year's FISU Games in Budapest with Canada's best student athletes.

In addition to his role as coach at UFV, Errington is also coach of the Abbotsford Mariners PDL team in the summer, as well as being the colour commentator for Vancouver Whitecaps games on television and radio.

Bio

In Rob's first year as Head Coach of the Cascades he rewrote the school record book, as he led the women's soccer team to the school's first ever Canada West Championship and the school's first ever CIS national medal, a Bronze at the 2010 Championships. 


Under his leadership UFV has won a team record 6 games and veteran Striker Ellen Kuyer, Surrey, BC became the first female student-athlete to be named Canada West Athlete of the Week and CIS Fem ale Athlete of the Week. The team has swept UBC and won the season series over his alma mater TWU four points to one.


Rob came to UFV via Concordia University (Seward, Nebraska) where he was Head Coach of the women's soccer program for the past 5 years. Before Rob's tour in Seward, he was an Assistant Coach on the Trinity Western University (TWU) women's soccer coaching staff, which included the programs first CIS National Championship, in 2004.


Rob played for TWU from 1991 to 1995 while earning his Bachelor of Arts degree. After his playing days, Rob earned his second under graduate degree in Education from UBC (1998) and Masters Degree from Concordia University (Seward) in Education in 2008.

Bio
Greg Russell, the former captain of the Canadian men's volleyball senior national team, has spent five seasons as head coach at UFV.

In 2008-09, Russell's Cascade volleyball team won the Silver medal at the provincials after a heartbreaking five-set loss to Camosun in the championship game.

At the national championships in Fort McMurray, the Cascades advanced to the semifinals, where they lost to MacEwan College, the eventual CCA champions.

Russell has led the Cascades to back-to-back medals in the BCCAA, winning silver in 2006-07 and bronze in 2007-08. In 2006-07, the Cascades also advance to the program's first-ever national championship, where they placed fourth.

Russell was a member of the senior national team from 1974-79 and was captain for two years (1978 and 1979). He competed in the 1976 Olympics in Montreal, the 1975 Pan American Games in Mexico City, the 1974 World Championships in Mexico, and the 1978 World Championship in Rome.

In his only previous foray into coaching at the collegiate level, Russell helped the University of Manitoba to a Canadian Intercollegiate Athletics Union National Championship in 1979.
