Jasper Moedt, men’s basketball team, and Tessa Klassen, women’s basketball team, are the Abbotsford Heat/UFV Cascades Athletes of the Week, for week ending Sunday, January 8, 2012.

Tessa Klassen led the UFV Cascades women’s basketball team to two key Canada West regular season victories defeating Calgary, 88-71 and Lethbridge, 64-56, to improve the Cascades record to 7-3 and a share of First place in CW West Division. The fifth year Cascade scored 50 points on the weekend, leading the team in scoring both nights. In addition, the Winnipeg native added 6 assists, 4 rebounds while playing more than 35 minutes each night.

Jasper Moedt, led UFV Cascades men’s basketball team to a key victory over the University of Calgary 74-65,on Friday with 7 points, 6 rebounds and one assist and steal. In Saturday’s 87-78 loss, to the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns, Jasper scored 20 points and pulled down a team high 6 rebounds. Jasper averaged close to 30 minutes of playing time both nights. The Cascades are currently ranked 10^th in the CIS top ten poll, with a 6-4 record in the West Division of Canada West conference.
