Personal Biography: Rita Dhamoon has worked extensively in the areas of anti-racism, feminism, difference politics, equity, and social justice, in both the UK and Canada. She has also been involved in union politics, with the aim of representing the interests of marginalized people.
Dr. Dhamoon has been teaching and conducting research at UFV since September 2008. Before that, she held two post-doctoral positions in Political Science, one at the University of Alberta and one at the University of Victoria. She is currently teaching courses in The Politics of Multiculturalism, Gender & Feminist Political Theory, Ideology & Politics, and Introduction to Politics.
Research Interests: Identity/difference politics, gender and feminism, intersectionality, critiques of ‘culture’ and multiculturalism, anti-racism, critical race theory, liberal political theory, and democratic theory. Dr. Dhamoon is currently involved in four research projects:
o Navigating relations within social justice movements.
o The relationship between security, multiculturalism, and nation-building.
o Teaching and learning about race and racism.
o The political and theoretical value of ‘intersectionality’ as a feminist analytic research tool.
