Life Skills Coaching certificate

This certificate is designed as a post-basic program for individuals already holding professional and para-professional credentials and/or individuals who have paid or volunteer experience in social service settings and related fields.

Why Study to become a Life Skills coach?

A Life Skills Coach is a trained professional who is skilled in assisting individuals or groups in any change process. Coaches can offer clients and employers advanced skills in group and meeting facilitation. Coaches are also trained to model and evaluate skills which support individualized learning or personal development in workplace, academic, or other settings.

The training is delivered in a group-learning format and prepares participants to model, implement or coach life skills in their professional and personal life. All instructors are professionals working as leaders in the field.

There is a 200-hour practicum which provides participants with an opportunity for practical application of skills and techniques under supervision.

Instructors:

All instructors are professionals working in the human service sector and are required to participate in appropriate professional development to ensure sensitivity and relevancy to the needs of a diverse population.

Entrance requirements:

  • CPT score of 48 or greater
  • Typed resume
  • Two letters of reference from an employer
  • 500-word letter of personal suitability
  • Successful interview with Director

You must apply to this program by filling out a UFV Application form and attaching to it the following documentation:

1. CPT with a score of 48 or greater (or acceptable alternatives per UFV's English Language Proficiency Requirement policy).
2. Your resume.
3. Two letters of reference from an employer.
4. A 500-word essay explaining your reasons for wanting to take this program and the factors that make you a suitable candidate for becoming a life skills coach.

Upon receipt of your completed application, you will be contacted for an interview with the Director of Continuing Studies.A successful interview is required for acceptance into this program. Upon acceptance into the program, registration details will be mailed to you. Fees are due at the time of registration.

Course Fee: $375/course
Practicum Fee: $750
Next Anticipated Intake: January 2011
