Nursing Foot Care
This five-day course is for currently licensed RNs and LPNs. (Other licensed health care providers, e.g. RPN, RMT, PT, and OT, may be enrolled at the instructor’s discretion.) It provides theoretical instruction and clinical practice in foot care. A holistic approach to foot care is presented. Upon completion, you will be able to identify and understand causes, prevention, and treatment of structural disorders, nail pathology, and skin/soft tissue
disorders. You will understand factors affecting foot health, be aware of foot care within the scope of nursing practice, and identify problems requiring referral.

This course prepares participants to provide nursing foot care services within a health care setting and in private practice. Practical advice regarding establishing a private practice is explored. You must complete a clinical practice component and an open-book examination (60% mark required). Do not purchase foot care instruments prior to course. You will practise on each other and are therefore requested not to cut your toenails for at least four weeks prior to the course. Please remove nail polish. Bring two hand towels, a bath towel, a basin for foot soak, and massage lotion of your choice.
