Intro to Gas Metal Arc Welding (MIG)
Get instruction on industrial and home hobby power sources, safety, equipment, electrical characteristics, effects of welding gases on the weld metal, and operation of GMAW and FCAW processes. In this course, you will use a combination of different welding wires and welding gases while learning most types of flat, horizontal, and vertical welding on mild steel plate. Wear cotton or wool clothing, coveralls, safety boots, hearing protection, and safety glasses. Text: P6 welding manual, available at UFV bookstore, approximately $35.

Intro to Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (TIG)
This course includes instruction on the welding equipment, electrical characteristics, and operation of the gas tungsten arc welding process. Using mild steel filler wire, you will learn different welding techniques on mild steel in the fl at, horizontal, and vertical positions. Depending on the students’ skill level, advanced materials and techniques may be introduced. There will be some in-class lectures, in addition to shop demonstration.
