Drawing 1 provided tricks, tips, and shortcuts for the novice artist. This course takes a more serious approach to the process of drawing. You will use a variety of themes and techniques to improve or enhance your drawing ability using basic tools. Bring your pencils, paper, ruler, eraser and enthusiasm.
Art: Watercolour Painting 2

This watercolour course is a continuation of the techniques you learned in Patricia’s fall class. It is a fun, casual, interactive learning atmosphere for intermediate & advanced students. It includes simplified techniques with watercolour; painting flora, fauna, portraits, landscapes, seascapes, and mountains; simplified basics in state of-the-art colour mixing & theory; updated pigment and colour choices; basic geometric shapes in watercolour, and more. Level 1 or some experience suggested. Supply list available at registration.
Class-on-a-Bus: H.R. MacMillan Space Centre

One of Vancouver's best-known attractions, the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre is part space and science museum, part planetarium, and part observatory. You’ll see a planetarium show and have time to explore the exhibit/gallery area. Take a break – find a bench and eat your brown bag lunch to recharge your batteries, then continue exploring or visit the gift shop before the return drive. Details of the show will be provided at Registration. Admittance to the Space Centre and one planetarium show, as well as access to the exhibits is included in the cost. Bring a brown bag lunch and wear comfortable shoes.
Class-on-a-Bus: Fort Langley National Historic Site of Canada & the Fort Wine Co. tour and wine tasting
Friday, Mar 23 9:30 am – 4:30 (approx) $50
Explore the authentic site of Fort Langley, a Hudson’s Bay Company fur trading post. There will be a short tour and plenty of time to explore. Storytellers dressed in costume share stories of fur trade life, the Fraser River gold rush, & the founding of BC. In the early afternoon, we will take a short drive to the Fort Wine Co. for a tour of the winery and wine tasting. The Fort Wine Co. has specialized in fruit table wines and award winning dessert wines since 2001. Housed in a Wild West saloon-style building, the winery is surrounded by farmland and cranberry bogs, from which it harvests the berries for its tart Mighty Fraser red cranberry wine and dry Ghost of the Bogs white cranberry wine. Admittance to the Fort, the wine tasting, and tours of both locations included in the cost. Bring a brown bag lunch, wear comfortable shoes, and dress for BC weather!
Cell Phone Tutorial

Do you have a cell phone that can do many things but you have no idea how to use it? Your first class will give you the basics, while the second class involves texting and beyond. High school student tutors will be on hand to instruct, demo and demystify the cell phone. Bring your questions, cell phone, user’s manual, and accessories (cables, electrical plugs, etc.).

Chef Corbeil is back! Join him in a new class where you will learn to make delicious appetizers and tasty finger foods in this “hands on” session. Bring your appetite. After creating scrumptious treats, you will enjoy your handiwork. End time is variable, but will likely be early to mid-afternoon.
Note on computer courses: Our computer labs have the Windows XP operating system. Windows 7 & Vista users will notice differences in functions and icons. We don’t recommend the courses for owners of Mac/Apple computers. You should have access to a Windows-based computer for practice.

Two sections of this popular course are being offered this spring. If you have absolutely no computer experience and would like to learn the basics of computer operations in a patient atmosphere, this course is for you. As well as taking the mystery out of computer terminology, the course will cover the functions and control of the mouse, an explanation of the desktop screen, and basic word-processing functions. Do you have a new laptop with Windows 7? Could you use some help making full use of all the new functions offered with this system? Bring your own laptop to class (no sharing). Learn to use the “Get Started” program, basic set-ups, email using Windows Live mail (other email programs will not be covered), digital camera uploads, and Windows 7 accessories. Basic keyboarding and email skills necessary. Bring your laptop with Windows 7 installed, a power cord, and memory stick.

Social networks enable anyone with a computer and Internet connection to stay in touch with friends and family across the globe. We’ll start with the basics of social networks, then move on to practical topics - especially how to protect your privacy and keep your details secure. You’ll learn how to use Facebook, how to upload photos to various photo-share websites, how blogs work, and how to use social networking effectively. A fun, hands-on course. Participants should have experience with using the Internet, should be able to use the keyboard efficiently. Bring a USB memory stick to every class.

This course is designed for digital SLR cameras only (not point & shoot cameras). Bring your camera to class. We will focus on the basics of digital photography. We’ll explore various camera features, controls, menu items, and shooting modes other than Auto, and discuss how various accessories and techniques can help your photography. Learn about shutter speed, aperture, ISO, depth of field, different types of lenses and specialty filters, how to use a tripod, how to properly hold a camera, and working with a flash and flash accessories.

Photoshop Elements is a program used to edit a digital photo. In this course you will learn how to use some of the editing tools to enhance a photo. You will make adjustments to size, colour and contrast in digital images and learn about some cool tools for getting creative with your photos. This course is a hands-on course for PC or Mac laptops. Students must have a laptop with Photoshop Elements Version 8, 9 or 10 installed.

A love of nature and concern for our natural resources motivate the presenters of this new and fascinating course to share their experiences, insight, work, knowledge and passion with us. Featured in this series are topics such as conservation of local species, palaeontology (with rock splitting demonstration), owl banding, the BC government’s proposed Natural Resource Road Act (which will create major changes to back-country recreation access), and talks from UFV science faculty. As You Like It, is one of The Bard’s most popular romantic comedies. The heroine Rosalind is the consummate storyteller, disguising herself as a young man, both to save her life and to teach her love, Orlando, the secrets of wooing successfully. Director Ian Fenwick will talk about his vision for the play as well as giving us a glimpse of the production process. After attending this presentation, you will have a better understanding and appreciation for the highly entertaining performance, which you will attend the following Sunday.
