CLASSROOM ADVISORY GROUP

The Classroom Advisory Group (CAG) was formed to establish a set of standards for classroom design at the University of the Fraser Valley.  The committee consists of UFV respresentatives from various disciplines, sprearheaded by Facilities Services, and acts as an advisory group to project management.

A key criterion in any classroom project is meeting the needs of the primary users, faculty, and students.  How do they perceive their current classroom environment?  Are they ideal teaching and learning places?  What would make them better learning environments?

CAG has expertise in developing classroom design standards to ensure that the physical layout of the room and the multimedia technology available will enhance the learning environment, and fit UFV's pedagogical needs.

Areas that the CAG review during monthly meetings are:

» Space standards
» Furniture standards
» Multimedia technology standards
» Acoustic design
» Color schemes
» Lighting standards & operation
» Pedagogical requirements

Undertaking a classroom renovation or construction project requires five phases of development:

• Phase I is classroom program development.
• Phase II is interior planning & conceptual design.
• Phase III is design development.
• Phase IV is preparation of drawings for interior improvement.
• Phase V is space improvement, furnishing & installation.
