Who is on the Science Advising team?

Karen Cooper ~ Karen.Cooper@ufv.ca
Karen is UFV's Science Educational Advisor. She completed her Master of Science in Biology at Simon Fraser University, during which she studied the effects of whole lake fertilization on production of zooplankton and juvenile sockeye salmon. Upon completion of her degree, Karen worked as a Fisheries Biologist in private industry for eight years. She then worked as a Co-op Education Coordinator at Simon Fraser University before moving south and settling in Eugene, Oregon, where she worked as an Academic Advisor at the University of Oregon for eight years. Karen’s interests include walking, reading and gardening. 


Christine Dalton ~ Christine.Dalton@ufv.ca
Christine is a faculty science advisor. She has a Master of Science in Wildlife Science from Oregon State University and undergraduate degrees in Biology and Political Science. For her master’s thesis she investigated the effects of female kin groups on reproduction and demography in voles (voles are round and furry and much cuter than mice!). This project involved trapping a lot of voles, mostly at dawn and dusk. She has also studied ducks in the beautiful lakes of the Chilcotin and Burrowing Owls in California. Christine has taught in the biology department at UFV for ten years. In her free time, she enjoys camping and hiking with her family, knitting and reading.


Tim Cooper ~ Tim.Cooper@ufv.ca
Tim has been at the University since 1992. He is older than most of the bricks in the buildings. Tim has been in the physics department and joined us when we transitioned from a College to a University- College and now to a University.
Tim has served two terms as department head, served on the Senate (then University College Council), UPAC (then PAC) and after a stint in the FSA executive is now also serving on the Board of Governors.
Tim’s primary focus has been on teaching, but has also done extensive research in intermediate energy nuclear physics as well as given over 80 presentations on his primary fear, climate change.
Tim’s knowledge of programs in the physical sciences (including engineering) is pretty good, and he is rapidly learning about other programs in the sciences. He likes cookies.


Rilla Apostolakis ~ Rilla.Apostolakis@ufv.ca
Rilla has worked at the university since 2001, and was a past student during the Fraser Valley College days. She is the Educational Advisor in the Science Advice Centre working primarily with students in the Computer Information Systems programs as well as students within the BSc. Rilla has been advising for students in the Sciences for more than six years and her past experience at UFV also includes advising students in the ECE/CYC and the BA in Adult Education degree programs. She received a BFA degree in Theatre from UVic and is in her final semester of the MSc in Academic Advising from Kansas State University (Go Wildcats!). Rilla’s interests include beachcombing, baking, gardening, and theatre.

If you want to drop in to book an appointment, the Science Advice Centre is located on the Abbotsford campus in Room D203 or for Chilliwack you can book online or visit Student Services in E105 on the Chilliwack campus to book your appointment. Appointments can be made for Abbotsford or Chilliwack, whichever is more convenient for you.
