Facilitators
Courtenay is in her fourth year at UFV, where she is studying Biology. She has also taken courses in physics, chemistry, and math. She loves running, soccer, and swimming. Last year, Courtenay traveled to Europe where she went to 10 different countries, and did everything from snorkeling in Greece to seeing an opera in Austria! After facilitating the Science Rocks! camp in 2010, Courtenay decided to come back for more, because she loves science! She is looking forward to solving crime scene mysteries and learning the science behind making ice cream - because that is her favourite thing to eat!
Cara Boerner is pursuing a Physics Major with a Minor in Math in the Bachelor of Science program at UFV. She has a deep passion for physics and math and wants to share its beauty with the next generation. Cara is aiming to become a high school physics and math teacher, where she can share her passion for the subjects. When volunteering with youth, Cara is always willing to help them with the problem that seems to have stumped them. She also loves living in British Columbia and the fact that she can call a friend and say, “Let’s climb a mountain” and then do it! Cara is always up for an adventure whether it be travelling, sports, skydiving or anything else. Her other interests include reading and playing board games with family and friends.
Ashley Epp graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree from UFV in June 2010, with a major in Biology and minor in Chemistry. She is currently in the process of applying to medical school and hopes to work as a pediatrician. Volunteering in health care and with children is one of Ashley’s passions; she volunteers with Big Brothers and Big Sisters, at the B.C. Cancer Agency in Abbotsford, and at B.C. Children’s Hospital. Since September Ashley has worked as a Facilitator with the Super Science Club at Central Elementary School in Chilliwack, and is very excited to use her experience gained at SSC this summer at Science Rocks! Ashley loves sports, especially soccer, basketball, snowboarding, and hiking; she also enjoys traveling, and has volunteered in the Philippines, and hiked volcanoes and surfed in Indonesia!
Samantha Edwards is a Fourth year Physics Major and Biology Minor in the Bachelors of Science Program at UFV. She wishes to have a career in Neurological Medicine in the future. She enjoys volunteering at math events at the local elementary schools as well as fundraisers in her community. Samantha has a passion for soccer, competitive swimming and triathlon training and is always up for learning something new. She has had the privilege to travel to many places such as Greece, Turkey, Germany, Bahamas and the Dominican Republic. Her favourite animal is the elephant and she wishes to travel to Africa someday to see them in their natural habitat.
