DEPARTMENT OF FASHION DESIGN

UPCOMING PROGRAMS

Exciting changes are coming to the Fashion Design department at UCFV with the launch of the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and a minor in Fashion Design.  Like the current Fashion Diploma program, this new four-year degree will continue to provide instructional excellence to students, while fostering creative confidence through an array of artistically-oriented foundation courses and new upper-level theory offerings. The BFA graduated its first class in Spring 2008 while the date for the Fashion Design Minor is TBA.

In addition to existing Fashion Design courses, the BFA will include these new courses of interest to fashion students:

• Intro Studio I:  Material Practices
• Intro Studio II:  Space, Form, and Time
• Foundation Drawing and Illustration
• Fashion in Art / Fashion as Art
• Addressing Clothing Piece by Piece

Another dynamic option for fashion students interested in a four-year degree will be the Bachelor of General Studies with a fashion concentration.  This degree will encompass a breadth of studies, and will allow the student to be involved in planning an individualized course-load tailored to specific interests.  The Fashion Design Minor in both the BGS and the BFA are pending approval by either the UFV board or the Ministry of Advanced Education in B.C.

Please contact Program Advisor Paula Funk at paula.funk@ufv.ca to find out how these degrees can work for you.
