Meet our Career Peers!
Chantelle Mathison
I am an English Major, working towards becoming an elementary school teacher. I have been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to work as a Career Peer. My experience as a Career Peer has been great and rewarding. I was able to meet a wide variety of fellow students from all sorts of study areas, ranging anywhere from Psychology to Computer Info. Tech. students. During my shifts, not only did I participate in coaching peers on how to improve their resumes and cover letters, but I also worked on small projects relating to the Career Centre such as arranging the big bulletin board outside, putting together video tutorials, and creating resources for the Career Centre webpage. This work study opportunity is great for people who are outgoing and like to help others. Not only was this opportunity rewarding to students who received one on one coaching appointments, but it has also been rewarding to me because it allowed me to improve my interpersonal communication skills. I also learned a lot of useful and practical resume tips that will stick with me throughout my life, which is priceless. During my spare time when I am not working towards my teaching degree, I enjoy cooking, travelling, staying active, going to the theatre and reading. Working as a Career Peer has allowed me to transfer skills that will benefit me for my career in the future!
