Student ‘no show’ policy deleted but not forgotten
Recent changes to: Policy 310.02 — Attendance (policy revisions approved December 2007) Policy 340.14 — No Show (policy deleted October 2007)
may suggest that the intent of the ‘No Show’ policy has been lost. This is not the case.
‘No show’ was seen as an attendance issue, and so, was moved into the Attendance policy.
The policy now says: “Students are required to attend the first meeting of the classes in which they are registered and they must notify their instructors in advance if they are unable to attend. Students are responsible for meeting other attendance requirements specified by instructors.”

UCFV faculty Renee Norman hosts poetry reading
Join Teacher Education instructor Renee Norman as she reads selections from Backhand Through the Mother, her recently published collection of poetry.
From babyhood to adolescence to young adulthood, Norman writes about the poignancy of motherhood, set against her own aging and the illness, death, and widowhood of aging parents. She also writes hopefully and with some humour as she navigates her daughters’ growing pains, middle-age, her Jewish background, and the legacies our parents leave us. Backhand Through the Mother was recently published by Inanna Publications, New York.
Poetry reading Mon, Jan, 21 4:30 pm UCFV Bookstore, Abby campus (main floor of Baker House, Student Housing Complex, H Building)
Refreshments will be served

Gateway debate: Forum on sustainable transportation for the Fraser Valley
UCFV’s EnviroClub will host a debate on transportation issues in the Fraser Valley on Wed, Jan 23.
This forum will feature four prominent people discussing the impacts of the proposed Gateway Plan, which is the provincial government’s response to increased traffic congestion in the Lower Mainland.
The government’s proposed solution lays out plans for twinning the Port Mann Bridge. There is a proposed rapid transit bus service to Langley at the farthest with “future routes to Abbotsford” but no concrete plans to be implemented.
Interurban studies have shown that with an increase in road networks but no accompanying public transit solutions implemented, traffic congestion returns within 10 years, according to the EnviroClub.
The EnviroClub has confirmed the participation of MLA Hon. John Van Dongen (MLA for Abbotsford–Clayburn and Minister of State for Intergovernmental Relations), Stephen Rees, a transportation and planning expert, and Nathan Pachal, who is involved with VALTAC (Valley Transportation Advisory Committee) and the Livable Region Coalition.
Students and the community are encouraged to attend this debate as it focuses specifically on the impact of the proposed Gateway Plan on the Fraser Valley. There will be an opportunity for audience questions.
Wed, Jan 23 7:30 pm (doors open at 7 pm) Abby B101
