Schoolhouse wraps up this week
There are just a few opportunities left to comes and see UFV Theatre department’s fall production Schoolhouse.
Set in 1938, Schoolhouse takes place in SS #1 Jericho School, a one-room schoolhouse in a farming area just outside the fictional village of Baker’s Creek. There, a delightful but unmanageable group of children meets its match: Melita Linton, an 18-year-old teacher fresh out of Normal School. Full of warmth and poignant humour, the play chronicles Miss Linton’s struggle to connect with a boy who has cut himself off from everyone, including himself — and to persuade the cautious and close-knit community to open its arms to this stranger in its midst. Schoolhouse continues Nov 26, 27 and 28, with a matinee on Sun, Nov 29 at 2 pm.
For more information about the theatre department’s season and program call local 2814 or email theatre@ufv.ca .

Thurs — Jews and Palestinians: Historic Roots of the Conflict
UFV political scientist Ron Dart will speak on this ancient and current conflict at Abbotsford Learning Plus next week. It goes back for centuries, and at times seems incapable of resolution: the ongoing war between Jews and Palestinians. Geography aside, it's a conflict that affects us all. How did it begin? Is there any way out? Ron Dart helps us explore the background — and the possibilities.
Thurs, Nov 26 Abbotsford Recreation Centre 10 am to noon. Fee is $2, plus admission to the Rec Centre.

Paul Whitney. Photo: Kim Stallknecht | Who owns information? Why can’t you just make copies of whatever you’d like? How do we compensate the creators of intellectual property when it’s so easy to download so many things for free?
These are the types of questions that may arise when intellectual property expert and librarian Paul Whitney when he visits the UFV next week as the guest of the UFV Library and Information Technology program.
Whitney, city librarian for the Vancouver Public Library, will discuss the status of the new copyright legislation (which is contentious and troubling for all Canadians, according to LIBIT program head Christina Neigel) as well as the Google Book Settlement, and other issues under debate that are related to intellectual property. Thurs, Nov 26 1 pm Abby B121
Everyone welcome
