Tomorrow: Feb 1 ― Children of War and Peace forum
How do wars affect children? How do children become soldiers? What is done for the orphaned, imprisoned and traumatized children and child-soldiers? How can peace education create a sustainable culture of peace? What can Canadians do for children in war-torn and post-war countries?
More than 300,000 children under the age of 18 are believed to be fighting in conflicts. Join us for a thought-provoking afternoon that will challenge your notion of what contemporary warfare looks like today in Rwanda, Sierra Leone and Bosnia/Herzegovina.
We will examine the impact of armed conflict on children, explore ethical issues surrounding the imprisonment of child soldiers and learn about the possibility of developing peace curriculum as part of the educational system in post-conflict societies. The afternoon will conclude with a panel discussion where questions from the audience will be welcome.
Guest speakers include:
Wendy van Tongeren Harvey (BC Crown Counsel, Former member of the prosecution team at the Special Court of Sierra Leone, in Freetown and the Hague)

Jean de Dieu Hakizimana
| Jean de Dieu Hakizimana (Founder and Executive Director of Neighborhood Care International, human rights activist and survivor of genocide in Rwanda)

Revision to Convocation line-up
There's been a slight change to which programs are graduating on the Fri, June 13 ceremonies, within the Faculty of Professional Studies. The Aviation, Business Administration and Health Sciences programs are affected. Please see the updated schedule at: www.ucfv.ca/Convocation.htm . It would be appreciated if those areas could advise their students of the time/ceremony change.
Also, the ceremony for the Faculty of Trades & Technology will be held in mid July; the date, time, and location will be finalized soon. Guest ticket allocation for each graduate is (up to) four tickets each.

Change in direct deposit pay stubs
Pay information at UCFV is currently available to you in two formats — a paper pay stub issued twice per month showing your direct deposit information, and on-line through “myUCFV”.
Effective February 1, 2008, your direct deposit pay information will be available only online through “myUCFV”. We will no longer be sending out the twice per month paper version.
If you still prefer a print record of your pay information, it is available from myUCFV. If you do not have access to a computer, or you require assistance using myUCFV, a kiosk has been set up in the IT department, Room #B243, and someone from IT will help you access myUCFV to obtain your pay information.
To access your pay information:
Log in to myUCFV • Select Employee Services tab • Select Personal Information • Select Employee • Select Pay Information
We are also working on streamlining the absence reporting process, and information will be provided at a later date. In the interim, absence report forms normally circulated with your direct deposit pay information will be available from Employee Services or your department.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Employee Services at 4554.
