Directors’ Theatre Festival begins next week
                       
UFV’s theatre will soon be buzzing with life and creativity, as Directors’ Festival performers from throughout the BC strut their stuff on stage. This is the 15th annual Directors’ Festival and the attendance at this popular event has grown tremendously during its evolution from audiences of several hundred to a present day figure closer to 3,500.

The festival is a fringe-style event, featuring a cornucopia of one-act plays over a five-day period. This year’s schedule offers 23 productions, including some by established playwrights as well as original plays by student writers. Theatre lovers can be sure to find something to their liking in such an eclectic blend of fare. Directors and performers for this event are theatre students from the UFV Theatre program and other post-secondary theatre programs in BC. Visiting groups this year include: UVic, SFU, Capilano, Thompson Rivers, Vancouver Island, and Trinity Western.

This year’s lineup includes: Afterglow by Peter Boychuck; Courting by Dan Hershfeld; The Author’s Voice by Richard Greenberg; The Big Smoke by Ron Fromstein; It’s a Blunderful Life directed by J.D. Duekman; Do Over by Frederick Stroppel; Here Lies Henry by Daniel McIvor; Horn of Sorrow by Nicholas Ellenbogen; Little Sister by Joan McLeod; Moon People by Alviva Ravel; Negotiating The Perfect One Night Stand by Jason Parker Green; Women in Heat by Rich Orloff; Out of The Flying Pan by David Compton; Pillow Talk by Peter Tolan; Recess by Corrina Hodgson; Savage/Love by Sam Shepard; Snow Angels by Kathleen Black; The Terrible False Deception by Rafe MacPherson; This is a Play by Daniel McIvor; Alone with Interest by Julia Church and Christopher Nash; The Woman Who Was A Red Deer Dressed for the Deer Dance by Diane Glancy; Women and Wallace by Jonathan Mark Sherman; V.W. by Andrew Westoll; The Theodore Roosevelt Rotunda by Jennifer Camp; and The Beaver Effect by Mark Stubbings.

This festival begins with a series of matinees and previews on Wed, April 28, and progresses to the opening ceremony on Thurs, April 29, at 4.30 pm. The festival will then play through to its conclusion on Sun, May 2, at 11 pm.

Tickets for individual productions are only $5 each, with four-packs of tickets selling for $15. A pass which covers all 23 productions sells for only $40. For information and reservations please call local 2814 or email the theatre staff at theatre@ufv.ca .

ITS maintenance schedule

Please take note of some upcoming scheduled ITS maintenance plans which might affect you.

Java patch for Blackboard
Mon, April 26
6–7 am

ITS maintenance plans are to install secure certificate renewal and Java patch for the Blackboard online learning system. This update will renew and install new SSL certificate, apply Java fix related to the JRE 1.6.0_19 and newer from Oracle.

The Blackboard learning system will not be available during this process and this will impact students and instructors who using the Blackboard online learning system.

The update will ensure data is secured. The Java patch installation ensures all application applet code is appropriately signed to alleviate warnings end users may receive when running JRE 1.6.0_19 and newer versions.

Replacing network equipment in Abbotsford

Equipment in this area is nearing the end of service life, so is being replaced with new equipment for improved performance and reliability. Connection to the network will be unavailable in this area during the maintenance window on Sun, May 2. Only users in the immediate vicinity of Building A, rooms A219–A251 are impacted. This includes the main boardroom A225/A229.

Commuter alert: play-off action at the AE&SC

The Abbotsford Heat hockey team is vying for the Calder Cup and will be playing two more games at home this week, Wed and Fri, April 21, and 23.

This will directly impact anyone planning to travel to and/or park on the Abby campus for classes on these evenings. Traffic may be congested and we will be actively managing our parking both to accommodate university needs and to make our unused space available to event patrons.

To build a strong and informed foundation for our department, we are seeking your input.

UFV’s annual fashion graduation show, takes place Wed, April 28 at the Envision Athletic Centre, with a matinee show at 2:30 pm (doors open at 2 pm) and an evening show at 7 pm (Alumni Wine and Cheese reception at 6:30 pm.)

Advanced Word 2007 workshop in Chilliwack

This workshop will present the more advanced features of Word 2007. Topics include linked text boxes, watermarks, style and theme management, working with master documents, bookmarks, table of contents, creating index entries, and citations/references. As time permits, we will incorporate additional topics you might have an interest in.
