Take down on campus? Not Really |

ICBC and the Abbotsford Police got together to raise student and employee awareness about auto crime on Tues, and the show included a staged takedown of a "suspect" in the woods south of the gym. Remember: lock your doors, don't leave valuables visible, and get a steering-wheel lock. |

Cascade sports report:
Women’s b-ball team makes historic first CIS playoff entry
The UCFV women’s basketball team will make its Canada West playoff debut by facing the no. 3-ranked UBC Thunderbirds in the Pacific division semi-final starting tomorrow. The CIS rookies are hardly novices when it comes to the post-season with a history of ten provincial championships and nine national championship medals in the college ranks.
The Thunderbirds host the Cascades in the best-of-three series Friday (6 pm), Saturday (6 pm) and, if necessary, Sunday (5 pm) at War Memorial gymnasium. All games will be broadcast live on 101.9 CiTR FM, with live stats available at: www.gothunderbirds.ca
UCFV (9-14 CW) may be rookies on the Canada West basketball landscape, but the Cascades are no strangers to the post-season. By making the playoffs in their first season as members of the CIS -- something Trinity Western and Thompson Rivers were unable to achieve -- the Cascades extend their streak to seven straight post-season appearances. Formerly a member of the BCCAA, UCFV was one of the most successful college programs in the country. In the team’s last post-season trip the Cascades took home bronze at the nationals, marking their third straight top-three finish after a silver medal in 2005 and a bronze in 2004.
"Making the playoffs in our first season is a great accomplishment for our program, but no one on this team accepts losing and we are preparing to put ourselves in a position to be successful," said Cascades head coach Al Tuchscherer.
UBC was victorious in both their previous games at MEI Gymnasium, trumping Fraser Valley 61-50 (Nov. 10) and 75-48 (Nov. 11).
"UBC is about as daunting an opponent any school is going to face this season," said Tuchscherer. "They're big, they're fast, they're athletic. I know our team is prepared to compete, however, to be successful we must eliminate anything easy for them -- we have to eliminate easy transition points, drastically cut down on their second chance opportunities, and make smart decisions when we have the ball."
