Applications for Fall 2010 begin October 1, 2009

UFV will start accepting applications for the Fall 2010 semester on October 1. Applications may be submitted online, in person, or by mail. We recommend early application, but it is not critical that students apply on October 1. Students should take the time to ensure they have a complete application, i.e. they need to submit everything required for program entrance except high school grades and test scores (which they will submit in March). Students can find the information they require in the program section of the UFV online calendar at www.ufv.ca/calendar .

CBldgLOStudents and staff at the University of the Fraser Valley’s Abbotsford campus have improved learning and working conditions following a $19.6-million major renovation funded by the Province. The new area includes more space for studios and classrooms, as well as offices with improved workspace. The former automotive and heavy duty mechanical bays were demolished to construct a new two-storey wing that houses 43 offices and nine “E-Room” classrooms. Futuristic transportation technology tested at UFV

EveredEvaroNot only does it get great mileage, but it looks cool too. The three-wheeled, bullet-shaped, electrical eVaro is one of the most fuel-efficient cars in the world...and it’s produced and tested right here in the Fraser Valley. The team at Maple Ridge-based Future Vehicle Technologies (formerly FuelVapor Technologies) has been working on creating the ultimate in efficient transportation for more than ten years. Until recently, they used gasoline-based motors that vaporized the fuel before it reached the engine, and achieved about 92 miles per gallon. When the company switched to electrically powered motors in 2008, they managed to crack the elusive 100 mile per gallon target and never looked back. FVT partnered with the Trades & Technology Centre at the University of the Fraser Valley to conduct a series of fuel efficiency tests. DyerJournalist Gwynne Dyer

Oct 21, 2009
Abbotsford campus, room B101
4 pm

The world-renowned international journalist and Academy Award nominee is presenting a free public lecture at UFV, on the topic of Crawling from the Wreckage.

"Barack Obama inherited the in-box from Hell, but an all-points crisis like the present one – economic, strategic, and climatic – also creates opportunities for radical change that do not exist in more normal times.  As his chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, put it: “Never waste a crisis.”

To limit the damage, Obama has to play a poor hand very well. He will be running even bigger deficits than the Bush administration over the next couple of years, which will allow him to do some repair work on the American social fabric as well as just bailing out failing businesses and jobless people. But rebuilding America’s reputation abroad and restoring the country to its previous glide-path of gentle and purely relative decline in the great power-pecking order will take more than money.

Barack Obama’s most important tasks are to manage America’s decline from “sole superpower” status, and to use the country’s remaining power in ways that benefit both Americans and the rest of the world. The economic crisis has given him unprecedented freedom of action, and he is choosing to use it."
