Admissions updates
Applications still being accepted
All programs at UCFV are still accepting applications for Fall 2008. We encourage students to apply as soon as possible as space may be limited in some programs.
Updates on programs still accepting applications will be posted online at www.ucfv.ca/ar/admissions/acceptapps.htm and sent through this newsletter.
Students can apply online at www.pas.bc.ca or mail in a paper application, available on our website at http://www.ucfv.ca/ar/admissions/apply.htm .
Provincial exam policy frequently asked questions
As previously announced, UCFV does not require students to write optional provincial examinations for Grade 12 courses. For more detail about the implementation of this change at UCFV, we have prepared some an FAQ list at http://www.ucfv.ca/ar/admissions/provincial-exam-policy-change.htm
English 12 First Peoples
For the 2007/08 academic year, English 12 — First Peoples will be accepted as equivalent to English 12. Students can self-report their grades in the "English 12" category in the online self-reporting system.
Submitting interim grades in March
Students who applied earlier received a letter in February outlining how to submit their interim grades to UCFV for the month of March. You can download and print the instructions from our Prospective Students webpage – see the “Apply Now” section, at www.ucfv.ca/Prospective_Students.htm . Students taking AP or IB courses should report the grades as standard grade 12 courses. e.g. IBENS12 = EN12.

New BSc in physical geography
We are adding to our Bachelor of Science offerings with a new major and minor in physical geography, creating increased opportunities for students to study environmental issues. Beginning September 2008, we plan to admit as many students as there is demand.
Physical geography is a major subfield of geography, where students study processes and patterns in the natural environment, including climatology, geology, geographic information systems, and human interaction with the environment.
“Global warming is one of our most challenging environmental problems, which is why this new program will have an intense focus on studying climate change,” said UCFV president Skip Bassford. “We are proud to increase opportunities for our students to study subjects that are of vital importance to our world today.”

Macbeth at UCFV in March
Macbeth, one of William Shakespeare’s greatest tragedies, is the third production of the UCFV’s Theatre department’s season of theatre. Macbeth is a chilling descent into the depths of a tormented murderer’s soul — a brilliant documentation of a headlong pursuit of power, driven by lust and ambition.
Macbeth will be directed by Theatre department faculty member Richard Wolfe, who previously directed Brecht’s Mother Courage and Beckett’s Waiting for Godot for the department. Wolfe’s cast for this production consist entirely of UCFV Theatre students.
Macbeth opens Friday, March 7, in the theatre on the Chilliwack campus and runs:
- Evenings, starting at 7:30 pm on March 8, 13, 14, 15, 20, 21, and 22.
- two reduced-price previews March 5 and 6 also at 7.30 pm.
- There are also four matinee performances: Monday and Wednesday, March 10 and 12, at 12 noon and Sunday, March 16 and 23, at 2 pm. (The Sunday, March 16, performance is a pay-what-you-can event, with a recommended minimum price of only $7.
Several performances are already sold out, so book early. For tickets and information call 604-795-2814 or email theatre@ucfv.ca .

Your chance to comment on UCFV promotional literature
We want our publications to be as helpful to you and your students as possible. So, in mid-March, we will be sending you a short survey that will allow your feedback to help us build on the collection of UCFV print materials, such as the viewbook and calendar. Watch for this in your inboxes coming this month.
