Award-winning author Shauna Singh Baldwin to speak at UCFV Sept 25 & 26
Over the summer, hundreds of book-lovers across the Fraser Valley read Shauna Singh Baldwin’s rich and inspiring novel What the Body Remembers.
On Monday and Tuesday, September 25 and 26, Baldwin will visit UCFV to participate in readings of this book and her other works at two events open to the public. The Centre for Indo-Canadian Studies and Research (CICSR) will be hosting a reading, discussion, book-signing and reception on September 25 starting at 6:30 pm in University House on UCFV's Abbotsford campus. At 2:30 pm the following day, also at University House, UCFV’s English department will host a reading and discussion by Baldwin on her book English Lessons and Other Short Stories.
Shauna Singh Baldwin was born in Montreal and grew up in India. Published in 1999, What the Body Remembers was her first novel and has been translated into eleven languages. It was also awarded the 2000 Commonwealth Writer's Prize for Best Book, Canada/Caribbean region. Baldwin is the author of English Lessons and Other Stories and the novel The Tiger Claw (nominated in 2004 for Canada’s prestigious Giller Prize). Her short fiction, poetry, and essays have been published in literary magazines in the USA, Canada, and India.
