UCFV launches industry-focused BBA degree in Chandigarh, India
$5000 in scholarships available exclusively to applicants

Chandigarh, India — UCFV today launched its industry-focused Bachelor of Business Administration degree program in India. Classes will be delivered starting July 17 at SD College in Sector 32-C, Chandigarh. The partnering institutes also celebrated the opening of the new UCFV-SDCC Centre at the College premises, and the announcement of $5000 in scholarships available exclusively to students of this BBA program.

"We are very proud to offer Indian students this unique UCFV BBA degree in Chandigarh, along with scholarships totalling $5000. This program is renowned for linking students with employers during their studies, and is designed to help them achieve management positions immediately upon graduation," says Professor DJ Sandhu, UCFV President's Advisor on Strategic Initiatives.

Sandhu says key to the UCFV BBA learning model is its strong focus on case studies and industry projects, which provides students with sound and varied practical experience to ensure their skills are in demand by employers worldwide.

"We strongly believe that education should be much more than just learning from a textbook," he explains. "Right from the start, students will be required to solve problems for leading employers, applying their knowledge in workplace scenarios. Leading employers work with us to develop and upgrade program curriculum so that it meets their needs. We've had exceptional success in this delivery model; it is an excellent way to ensure high graduate employability."

Faculty will be comprised of both North American and Indian professors who have a proven track record in delivering applied instruction through collaboration with industry. The four-year delivery format is internationally recognised so that students may continue their studies anywhere in the world.

This BBA is offered at a fraction of what it would cost international students to complete the degree in Canada; however, after successful completion of year one, students do have the option to transfer to the same program delivered at UCFV in British Columbia.

To learn more about this program, students and parents are invited to attend an Information and Application Session every Thursday evening until June 22, at the SD College premises in Chandigarh's Sector 32-C. Digital brochures and application forms can be downloaded from the web at www.ucfv.ca/chandigarh.

UCFV serves 10,000 students and enjoys wide support from the largest Indo-Canadian community in Western Canada. This initiative is yet another example of how the Canadian university is nurturing its ties to India. To underline its commitment to link education with industry in the two countries, UCFV houses the Centre for Indo-Canadian Studies and Research (CICSR) and last year donated 10 lakh Rs. to Panjab University in support of its Canadian Studies Centre.

"This collaborative effort of the two institutions is a stepping stone on the path to further cooperation through educational, academic and cultural linkages," says Dr. AC Vaid, SDCC Principal.

Sanatan Dharma College, Chandigarh (SDCC) is a post-graduate affiliate of Punjab University and one of Northern India's leading colleges. SDCC was established in 1973 and is accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council of India. It is situated on a sprawling 16.5 acre campus that boasts thick mango groves, in the heart of Chandigarh 's Sector 32-C. In the 2006 national assessment, India 's University Grants Commission honoured SDCC with the status of College with the Potential for Excellence. This prestigious award recognises innovation that improves teaching standards and is accompanied by funding earmarked in the continual pursuit of excellence.
