UFV introduces new graduate studies certificates Info sessions this month
Say you’re a mid-career professional and you want to polish up your skill set, learn something new, or increase your chances of advancement. Where do you go if you already have your degree? UFV is introducing two new graduate studies certificates this year to meet the needs of two such groups: K-12 teachers and program evaluators.
These part-time, one-year programs are delivered right here in the Fraser Valley on a schedule that allows participants to keep their day jobs and manage their lives while earning an advanced university credential.
The graduate certificate in teacher leadership and mentorship is designed for practicing teachers in the BC K-12 school system looking to develop skills in leadership, mentorship and communication. The program, which includes an intensive practical experience component, connects existing leaders with protégés, and creates an ongoing cycle of leader/mentor development. It was developed through extensive consultation with teachers and administrators in four Fraser Valley school districts (Fraser-Cascade, Chilliwack, Mission, and Abbotsford).
For teachers who eventually want to earn their Master’s in Education degree, the credits from this certificate are fully transferrable directly into a variety of graduate educational leadership programs offered at other BC universities. Classes start in August 2010 and seats are limited to keep the learning environment intimate. Learn more online or attend an info session this month: May 11 on the UFV Abbotsford campus, room B121 at 7 pm OR May 13 on the UFV Chilliwack campus, room E101, at 7 pm.
UFV is also offering a program tailored for public sector and civil society professionals and managers tasked with program evaluation and public accountability responsibilities. The graduate certificate in program evaluation is designed to provide the practical knowledge, skills, and credibility for conducting, managing or participating in the program evaluation process. These people drive the processes that assess the relevance, sustainability, impact, effectiveness and efficiency of government programs, projects, policies and regulations by focusing on program results and value for tax-payers’ money. Details available online.
