UFV buzzing with International Development Week activitiesThe University of the Fraser Valley is joining dozens of college and university campuses across Canada, along with 85 other countries around the globe, to celebrate International Education throughout the week of November 16–20.
Promoting Global Citizenship is the theme for Canada’s 2009 International Education Week. International and intercultural knowledge, skills, abilities, and attitudes are increasingly important for students to develop in order to live and work in an increasingly interdependent world.
Students, faculty, staff, and members of the public are invited to attend a a variety of events organized by UFV International at the Abbotsford campus throughout the week.
On Monday, November 16, the week kicks off with a world culture café in the University House from noon to 2 pm. On Tuesday, November 17, join guest speaker Dr. Clement Apaak in the lecture theatre (B101) at 1pm. Dr. Apaak is a renowned scholar, community activist, and public speaker, and will speak about the international student experience in the 21st century. Light refreshments will be served.
On Wednesday, November 18, UFV hosts a faculty forum in Room B121 from 2:30 to 5 pm, in which professors Aleksandra Idzior, Cherie Enns, and Betty-Joan Traverse will speak about their projects related to UFV’s internationalization fund. Light refreshments will be served. On Thursday, November 19, UFV International hosts a study abroad information session in Room B121 for students interested in education abroad (1 pm).
Participants will have the opportunity to win a gift certificate from the campus bookstore. On Friday, the International Development Student Club, Students for Sustainability, and Oxfam Youth are hosting a series of workshops surrounding the theme of global citizenship in Room B121 from 10 am to 5 pm. Fair trade coffee will be served.
To conclude the week-long series of events, an international film festival will be held in the Abbotsford campus lecture theatre ( B101) from 6 to10 pm.
