Quality of Life survey for Chilliwack residents
How would you rate your quality of life? How do you feel about living in Chilliwack? What do you think about public safety, health, and other aspects of life in our community? The Chilliwack Social Research and Planning Council (CSRPC) wants to know.
These questions and more like them will be asked of 2,500 residents who have been randomly selected to receive the Quality of Life survey in the mail during the week of November 23–27. These residents are encouraged to complete the 16-page survey and return it to the CSRPC in the supplied pre-paid envelope by December 7, 2009.
The CSRPC is a not-for-profit organization that conducts research for the benefit of Chilliwack. It is a partnership of the University of the Fraser Valley, the City of Chilliwack, Chilliwack Community Services, Fraser Health, and the United Way of the Fraser Valley.
The survey will contain questions on health, housing, sense of community, crime and security, economy, and leisure.
“We really need and value the input of Chilliwack residents so I’m hoping that the people who receive the survey will take time to complete it and let us know how they feel about their community. Since we are only sending out 2,500 surveys, each individual who replies is representing Chilliwack in a very important way,” says Brad Whittaker, chair of the CSRPC. “We need to hear from as many recipients of the survey as possible so we can compile an accurate picture of people’s lives in Chilliwack. The results of the survey will help identify important concerns and issues that will provide direction and help guide policy and practices of relevant organizations.”
Residents who complete and return the form have an option to enter into a prize draw for $100 worth of gasoline.
A similar survey was conducted in 2004 but times have changed since then according to Whittaker.
“The 2004 survey was very long and took a long time to complete. We have improved the 2009 survey so that will take less time and be easier to read but we will still be able to compare the results with those of the previous survey.”
If you aren’t one of the randomly selected households, but would like to have your answers included in this study, you can pick up a copy of the survey from Chilliwack Community Services or from UFV (Building A on the corner of Airport Road and Yale Road).
In the spring of 2010, a four-page newspaper insert will highlight some of the results of the survey.
