UFV students benefit from $194,725 anonymous giftIt’s a big-bucks surprise: an anonymous donor with small town roots has donated $194,725 to provide financial assistance to UFV students in need.
“What a heart-warming surprise it was for us to receive such an enormous gift from a man who has little history in the Fraser Valley,” notes Ryan Koch, UFV’s acting director of development. “For many donors, the true spirit of philanthropy is about making anonymous gifts to meaningful causes. This is a case in point of a donor who wishes to keep his anonymity.”
The donor expressed to Koch that he chose to give the gift to UFV because he came from a small town not unlike Valley communities and had a family connection to the university. “He is an older man who wanted to leave something behind for future generations. He recognized that education is one way to have the broadest impact,” says Koch.
The gift was endowed and will generate annual interest that will help students in financial need. As an endowment, this will carry on in perpetuity.
“This is an extraordinary gift,” UFV president Mark Evered says. “UFV’s mission is to give qualified students access to education and to provide them the support they need to succeed. This wouldn't be possible without such tremendous support from donors like this contributor. We are deeply grateful for this generous gift.”
