This research examines how social justice is conceptualized and experienced in universities. There are two phases to the research. Phase one focused on documentary analysis (e.g. policies, mission statements, strategic plans) in twenty Canadian universities. Phase two involved interviews at three universities, including faculty, staff and students. The universities differed in size, scope and geographic location. The research time period is 2006-2009. Funding was received from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. Social justice can be definite as social conditions and actions where all members of a society have equal rights and opportunities, responsibilities and obligations. This research is important because it contributes to knowledge about the subject of equality, equity, and human rights, within the context of higher education institutions. Social justice is a principle that is fundamental to social work, adult education, and a number of other disciplines and sectors in society. Students were involved in documentary searches, developing preliminary case studies of universities, and conducting data analysis. Names of students involved in your research and their duties:
