Undergraduate Research Excellence Awards - June 7th

The Undergraduate Research Excellence Awards was an excellent night and many students were recognized along with their supervising faculty.  Those in attendance were the Undergraduate Research Excellence Award winners, Student Research Day winners, and students that have won national awards and scholarships.  It was a great night for everyone to see all the amazing work UFV students accomplish.

MicroLecture series at UFV- September 22, 2010
Abbotsford Campus Green

Would you invest two minutes of your time if it meant greater recognition for your research work and the possibility of inspiring someone to study in your field?

Share your research with the university and regional community in a fast and user-friendly way. Given the success of our first two-minute 'MicroLecture', we are planning our second event where all faculty members involved in any form of research have the opportunity to disseminate the highlights of their findings, one after the other, to the masses in busy, public places on campus.

We're looking for ten or more faculty members to be a part of our second UFV MicroLecture event, slated for the Abbotsford campus in September 2010 from 11:30am to 2:00pm (location TBA). You'll be amongst your peers at universities around the world who make their research accessible through this process.

A small riser and microphone/speakers will be set up. Each researcher takes the stage for a maximum of two minutes and speaks about the exciting findings and implications of their research. Each researcher will take the stage, one after the other, over the course of about an hour. Discussion and networking are encouraged afterwards (e.g. if someone is inspired, they would approach you afterwards to discuss further). The event is widely promoted across campus and into our local communities.

What it is not:

The MicroLecture series is not an opportunity for faculty to introduce themselves or their department to the audience. Rather, it is an opportunity for those in attendance to get a variety of "snapshots" of the exciting research being conducted at UFV.

Please contact Rita Dhamoon, or Brad Whittaker to learn more. We hope to have at least ONE representative from each department participate in this exciting event. To register, please contact Yvette Fairweather at yvette.fairweather@ufv.ca.

Student Research Day - March 26, 2010

Special thanks to Ron Wilen and Tony Stea for organizing this event and making it happen, and thank you to everyone who attended to help support our students.

Centre for Social Research - Gladys and Harvey Kipp Research Lab

Under the auspices of the Associate Vice-President Research and Graduate Studies, the Centre for Social Research will provide a gathering place for those in the UFV community actively involved in social research.

The grand opening of the centre was held on October 15, 2009.  The centre is now up and running!  Come and  check out this exciting new research workspace for faculty and students!

The Dean and AVP also extend a heartfelt thank you to the Kipp family and the UFV Development Office for making this possible.

We are still needing a few more faculty members to volunteer to become associates of the centre.  Please contact Brad Whittaker (brad.whittaker@ufv.ca) or Yvette Fairweather (yvette.fairweather@ufv.ca) for more information.
