Nominate an outstanding UFV researcher for excellence award

UFV will provide an award to an individual in recognition of research excellence.
Those eligible for nomination include all UFV “B” faculty who have completed their probationary period, or other instructors who have a cumulative equivalent of 2 years teaching time at UFV. Those who win the award cannot be nominated again for 5 years.

Nominations will be accepted from ‘B’ faculty, Sessional faculty, or university administrators, but may not be nominated by any member of the Senate Research Committee. No one may nominate himself or herself for this award.
Selection criteria include originality/innovation, academic impact, UFV/community impact/influence, and mentorship/interface of research and teaching. Emphasis will be placed on work accomplished as a member of the UFV community, but achievements within the past five years that were achieved elsewhere will be considered.

Award recipients receive a plaque with the award recipient’s name and the year on it, a framed certificate, as well as an award of $2,500. The monetary award will be administered by the university in order to support the award recipient’s continuing research development.

Past Announcements & Events

Arts Research Lunch

At the September Arts Faculty Council meeting, the Research Office volunteered to organize and sponsor an event for faculty to talk to students about their research and describe student opportunities for participation in research.   This event would enhance the exposure of research to students and encourage their participation in research while attending UFV.

The Research Office is hosted a lunch for students and research active faculty in the Faculty of Arts on Thursday, November 24.Faculty members spoke for 2 minutes to the students and described their research and what students could learn from participating in it.  Students that attended found the event very useful and made connections with faculty. Faculty members also made new connections among themselves.

Watch for the announcement in January for the Science faculty research lunch!

Research:  Connecting Across Disciplines

A reception was held on October 19 at the Ramada Inn and Conference Centre, hosted by the AVP Research and Graduate Studies.

The purpose of the evening was to connect UFV faculty researchers and stimulate interdisciplinary networking and creative thinking, and ultimately encourage research partnerships as well as provide increased opportunities for students to be involved in research.

Each attendee provided a PowerPoint slide that captured something about their research area.  The purpose of the slide was to generate discussions and connections.

The event was a great success and similar gatherings will be held in the future.

Centre for Social Research - Gladys and Harvey Kipp Research Lab

Under the auspices of the Associate Vice-President Research and Graduate Studies, the Centre for Social Research will provide a gathering place for those in the UFV community actively involved in social research.

The grand opening of the centre was held on October 15, 2009.  The centre is now up and running!  Come and check out this exciting new research workspace for faculty and students!

The Dean and AVP also extend a heartfelt thank you to the Kipp family and the UFV Development Office for making this possible.

We are still needing a few more faculty members to volunteer to become associates of the centre.  Please contact Brad Whittaker (brad.whittaker@ufv.ca) or Yvette Fairweather (yvette.fairweather@ufv.ca) for more information.
