SSHRC Insight Grant NOI changes
The Notification of Intent (NOI) to apply for an Insight Grant is now mandatory. NOIs must be submitted directly by the applicants to SSHRC via the online system by August 15th, 2012. An applicant who has not submitted an NOI by this date will be ineligible to submit the full application in the October 2012 competition.
In addition to basic information, an applicant must submit a one-page Summary of the Proposed Research. This Summary must include:
- the objectives of the research
- the proposed methodology; and
- the anticipated significance and impacts of the proposed research.
The NOI form will be available on SSHRC’s website by mid-June.
2011 Canadian Research Data Summit Final Report Released
The Research Data Strategy Working Group (RDSWG), an initiative lead by the National Research Council of Canada, has released the final report of the discussions held at the 2011 Canadian Research Data Summit. The report is entitled “Mapping the Data Landscape: Report of the 2011 Canadian Research Data Summit.” For more information on the final report of the Data Summit please see below.
As you may remember, SSHRC participated actively in and continues to support the Research Data summit goals. In fact, through a tri-agency collaborative initiative, SSHRC has already taken steps in developing a shared approach for improving access to the results of publicly funded research in keeping with internationally recognized best practices, standards and policies for funding and conducting research through the development of joint policy on open access to publications and research data. NSERC - Government of Canada Launches New Grants to Support Community-Based Research Partnerships
For your information, the Honourable Gary Goodyear, Minister of State (Science and Technology) and Suzanne Fortier, President of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) recently announced the launch of the new College-University Idea to Innovation (CU-I2I) Grants. SSHRC Grants - New Program Architecture
SSHRC has approved their new program architecture, which will result in having all available funding opportunities under 3 umbrella categories: Insight, Talent and Connection.
SSHRC’s renewed architecture will be implemented over a three-year period. In July 2010, SSHRC will launch its Insight and Connection programs, with calls for proposals for Partnership Development Grants and Partnership Grants. The application deadline for Partnership Development Grants will be in November 2010. The deadline for Partnership Grants will be in January 2011. These will be followed by Insight: Research Development Grants later in the summer of 2010, featuring a special envelope for new scholars, and with deadlines planned for 2011.

New search tool for SSHRC funding opportunities
The Funding section of the SSHRC website has a new search tool that allows researchers to find, sort and view information on SSHRC funding opportunities with the click of a button.
The search tool is part of a redesign to fully integrate Talent, Insight and Connection into the SSHRC website. Researchers can now effortlessly view SSHRC's funding opportunities in each of these areas, find out more about SSHRC programs, as well as search for funding by their applicant category.
