The University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) B.A. Adult Education Program, in cooperation with the UFV Communications department, offers an Adult Education degree program component in Instructional Design which we anticipate ultimately will become an ongoing, in-house aspect of our existing degree program.
We feel that these course initiatives may be of interest as a professional development opportunity for those working in adult and continuing education and corporate training, and for instructional personnel involved in post-K-12 education areas. This set of three courses will be offered as a fully-integrated package making up the Instructional Design component of our degree. However, as each course has been tailored to meet specific learning outcomes, courses may be taken individually.
ADED/CMNS 345 - Instructional Skills for Professionals
Course Description: This course provides an opportunity to design and teach using a variety of media, to a variety of audiences, in a variety of situations. Developing lesson plans, using instructional technologies, developing and using evaluation techniques, and conducting on-the-job training are the focus of the course.
ADED 330n - Assessing Adult Learning
Course Description: This course will proceed from a holistic view of assessment as part of the teaching and learning process. Assessment issues will be presented from several perspectives, and will include assessment techniques to assess adults’ prior learning, assessment in specific program areas such as adult basic education and workplace learning, and self-reflection and self-assessment.
ADED 330m - Portfolio Development for the Reflective Practitioner- blended, on-line and face-to-face. (3cr).
Course Description: This course concentrates on the development and discussion of the Teaching Portfolio and on what can be learned both about the portfolio development process and about the experience of teaching, learning, and assessment.
Any of these courses may be taken as stand-alone offerings, although all are recognized for credit in the UCFV Adult Education degree program.
