Another academic year is rapidly drawing to a close and as students and staff look forward to graduation, the Alumni Association is looking at the end of a three-year strategic plan. The plan has brought the association to maturity as an organization that has given us much of which to be proud.
Projects that we are especially proud of include the five leadership awards given out yearly by the Alumni Association. In addition to those awards, being involved in the selection process for the annual Teaching Excellence award allows us to say thank you to an outstanding teacher at UFV, and the Distinguished Alumni award provides us with the opportunity to honor alumni who make us proud. We have other ongoing events and projects including a new mentorship event with Business Administration students, which we hope to expand to other programs. Our Alumni evening of theatre night was a big success this year, so much so that we were able to offer a second evening in response to the demand. The first-ever Library and Information Technology alumni reunion takes place this fall with LIBIT grads who will come together to celebrate 30 years of learning. Your alumni website now has a new and fresh look. I encourage you all to go online to learn about all the great benefits and privileges we offer you and to keep in touch. While we have many accomplishments to be proud of, we also recognize the need to raise our profile so that more alumni can share with pride in the accomplishments of their institution.
Communication is a key to any successful organization and your association works hard to keep you informed of our activities. We want to thank everyone who participated in our survey last winter. We learned a great deal about what alumni want from their association and this will aid us in our strategic planning session this summer. I would like this 'planning' to include all alumni and I encourage your participation through active involvement. If you feel you have some ideas for the board to consider please contact the Alumni Relations office on campus by emailing alumni@ufv.ca.
On behalf of the alumni board of directors, I would like to congratulate students who are graduating this year. The time and effort was worth it. I wish you good luck in your future endeavours. I also wish to express my appreciation to the Alumni board, staff of the Alumni Relations office, and alumni members who continue to support this association with their generous donation of time, talent, and funding.
