| How to register |
| 1) Plan your courses and timetable |
|
Choose your courses |
|
| • |
Consult the online UFV calendar. See Program Index for program outlines, and Course Descriptions for details. |
| • |
Seek help from your program or department head, advisor, or assistant. |
| • |
If you have choices to make, are considering more than one program, or are planning to transfer, make an appointment with an educational advisor in Student Services.
|
Plan a conflict-free timetable |
|
| • |
Review the timetable. |
| • |
Prepare a timetable, with several course alternatives, using a Timetable Worksheet. Enter the course numbers and section course registration numbers (CRNs) on the worksheet. |
| • |
Choose sections that are not scheduled at the same time, and allow sufficient travel time if classes are on different campuses. |
| • |
Be sure you have met the prerequisites for all your courses. If you plan to seek instructor’s permission to waive prerequisites, do so before you register.
| 2) Find your registration time |
|
Registration times are scheduled in early May for the Fall semester, in early November for the Winter semester, and in early March for the Summer semester.
See Important Registration Dates to find out when registration times will be available for the upcoming semester. On or after this date, you may find your registration time through myUFV. Use your UFV student ID and password to log in. Make the following selections:
» Student Information » Student Services » Registration » Check your registration time and eligibility.
For your first semester at UFV, you will be mailed registration information in late May for the Fall semester, late November for the Winter semester, and in late March for the Summer semester.
Continuing students are assigned a registration time if they are currently enrolled, or if they have completed UFV credit courses within the last two years and are eligible to continue in the same program. Students who have been absent more than two years, or have missed one or more semesters in a program that requires continuous enrolment, must apply for readmission to a UFV program.
Register as soon as possible after your registration time so you do not miss out on reserved seats that might be available to you. |
| 3) Register for your courses |
|
Register through myUFV from any location with internet access. Computers are available for your use outside the registration offices on Abbotsford, Mission and Chilliwack campuses.
| • |
Access myUFV using your student ID number and password. |
| • |
Make the following selections: |
|
» Student Information » Student Services » Registration |
| • |
Select Registration Rules to view important information prior to registering. |
| • |
Select Register, Add, Drop, Waitlist, or Withdraw from Classes and follow the instructions. |
| • |
Be careful. When you click on Register or Submit Changes the system will complete the transaction unless there are errors. All web transactions affect your UFV registration record and fees. |
| • |
Need help? Call or drop by Admissions and Records during office hours. |
| • |
Pay your $200 registration deposit immediately after registering. If your payment has not been received by 4 pm on the next business day, you will be dropped from your courses without notice. You can pay through internet banking, or through myUFV using Visa, MasterCard, or American Express, or see Payment options for other methods. |
| • |
If the section you want is full, choose an alternate course or a section offered at a different time or campus, or put your name on a waitlist. When you waitlist through the web, be sure to click on Submit. |
| • |
Check your Student Schedule after every course transaction (e.g., course add, course or section change, waitlisted course, or withdrawal) to confirm the transaction. Check room numbers on your Student Schedule just before classes begin.
| 4) Attend your first day of class |
|
You must attend the first meeting of the class for the semester, or notify the instructor in advance if you are unable to attend. Otherwise, at the discretion of the instructor, you could lose your seat in the course. (View instructor contact information.)
The instructor is entitled (but not obligated) to withdraw you if you miss the first class. If you are withdrawn for non-attendance at the first class, you will not be charged full fees for the course, but UFV will retain 10% of the tuition fees as a penalty. However, it is your responsibility (not the instructor’s) to formally withdraw if you decide not to take a course. Otherwise, if you do not complete a course, you will remain responsible to pay full fees for it and will be given a fail (NC) grade. |
How to register after classes begin
After classes begin, you can only register if you have obtained the instructor's permission to do so.
- Check the semester timetable for the day and time the class meets and attend the class to see if there is space available.
- Request permission from the instructor to register. If granted, he or she will give you a signed Permission to Register form.
Note: Instructors will first give any available seats to students on the class waitling list, if one exists. They will also check to make sure you meet the course prerequisites.
- If you receive permission to register from the instructor, register in person at any Admissions & Records office during office hours.
|
Note: In addition to the above steps, if you are new to UFV, or have not attended UFV classes within the past two years, you will also need to apply when you come in to register. |
What to bring with you
Refer to the following chart for items to bring with you when you come to the registration office to either register or apply and register.

Transcripts
Students who will be 19 or over as of the first day of class do not require transcripts for admission or registration, but we encourage you to submit official transcripts in order to meet prerequisites for courses. Post-secondary transcripts should be accompanied by a Request for Transfer Credit form (pdf).
Students who will be under 19 as of the first day of class will require an official high school transcript showing proof of graduation. English Language Entrance Proficiency
All students applying to post-secondary programs must provide evidence of meeting English language entrance proficiency.
You will not need further documentation if...
- Your native language is English, or
- You completed Grade 11 and 12 in, and graduated from an English language school.
Otherwise, you will need to provide documentation (official transcript/test score) as outlined in the English language entrance proficiency policy.
Students who are unable to meet entrance proficiency requirements can be admitted to English as a Second Language or College and Career Preparation (contact the UUP department). |
