Please read the following information before registering through myUFV.

You may wish to print this page or keep this window open in case you run into any problems while registering.

If you have any questions, please contact us during office hours.

Registration deposit

Domestic students: The $200 registration deposit must be paid by 4 pm the next business day or you will be removed from your courses. The deposit is paid once per semester. Please note: phone calls or emails will no longer be made to students who have not paid their deposit.
If you are unable to register for any courses (or if you are only waitlisted) the deposit is not required.

International and Continuing Studies students should see UFV International and Continuing Studies for applicable information on registration and fees.

Registering and waitlisting for the same course

You may not be registered for a course and on a waitlist for the same course. Periodically we drop anyone from the waitlists without warning if they are registered in the same course.

Registering for sections with reserved seats

If you have declared a major or extended minor that matches the seat reservation, and there are NO remaining reserved seats left, you will not be able to register for that section online, even if there appear to be other seats available.

If you are prevented from registering for a section that has reserves for your major or extended minor and has seats available, call Admissions & Records during office hours for assistance.

Errors and warning messages

Web registration cannot be done if registration in a course creates an error in your record. Some errors that you may see are:

Conflicts: You may not register in courses that are offered at the same time.
Class full: You may not register if a class is full.
Credit limit: You may not register in more than 6 courses per semester unless you have the dean's permission for an overload. Maximum courseload is set at 20 credits unless your program requires more credits. Occasionally 6 courses can total more than 20 credits. If you require more than 20 credits to register in your sixth course, you can contact A&R to adjust your credit limit.
Duplicate course or section: You cannot register online for a course section that you can see in your record. For example, if you drop a section after the 100% refund period ends, it stays on your record. You cannot register for it later using myUFV. Contact A&R for assistance.
Major or program restriction: The section you want to add is restricted to students in a major or program that is not the same as yours. This usually happens when a course prerequisite requires admission to a particular program.
Link error: Some classes require both a lecture section and a lab section. If you do not register for both, you will get a link error. Neither section stays on your record.
Preq and test score: This indicates you do not have the prerequisites and/or corequisites on your UFV record.

Watch for surprises! The system will not leave an error on your record. It will delete offending courses. If adding a course causes a conflict, either one of the conflicting sections could be deleted. If you cannot get back into a course that has been dropped, you can only fix it by visiting or calling an Admissions & Records office.

Always check your student schedule to ensure that all your courses are recorded before exiting from your student record through myUFV.

Holds

If you are unable to complete a transaction on myUFV due to a hold on your account, please contact Admissions & Records to find out what information or action is needed for the hold to be removed.

Prerequisite checking

Students are expected to meet all course prerequisites and corequisites as listed in the online UFV calendar and in this timetable, or to obtain instructor’s permission before registering.

Winter 2012: Prerequisite checking up to 4 pm, December 15
If you register through myUFV, you will see a warning message under “Status” if the prerequisites are not on your UFV record. Your registration status will be updated the following night. In Your registration details, the status Reg’d — Prereq NOT satisfied, means there is a problem.

Students who register for a course without the prerequisites will be sent an email to their UFV email account with a deadline date to resolve the issue. If the issue is not resolved, you will be dropped from the course or wait list.

If you are missing prerequisite(s) and decide not to pursue the course, withdraw from it; do not assume A&R or the instructor will drop you. There is no guarantee that this will occur, and you could lose out on a fee reduction if you stay registered. If you expect you will be dropped from a course, check your registration record to confirm that you have been dropped.

Winter 2012: Prerequisite checking after 4 pm, December 15
At 4 pm, December 15, students must meet all prerequisites prior to registration. If prerequisites are not met, you will receive an error message that you are unable to register or waitlist. If you are able to resolve the prerequisite problem or obtain a prerequisite waiver, you can try again. Students will be dropped from courses that show an RN or QN status at 9 am, December 16.

Details about prerequisites

  • A grade of C- or higher is required for prerequisite courses unless otherwise indicated.
  • Placement tests used to meet prerequisites must be taken at least four weeks before you register.
  • If a course prerequisite is in progress, you won’t encounter a prerequisite problem when you register. Your prerequisite status will be updated the day your final grade is recorded, and if prerequisites are not met, you will be dropped from the course or waitlist on the evening of the following business day.
  • If you believe you have the necessary skills and knowledge for a course, but do not have the prerequisites on your UFV record, you could contact the instructor to seek a prerequisite waiver. If granted, the instructor must enter permission for you or give you a signed Permission to Register form (pdf) to bring to A&R.
  • Some prerequisites are not checked by A&R, but you are expected to meet all prerequisites and corequisites. You can be removed from a class at any time if you cannot show you have met all the requirements.
  • Transfer credits can satisfy prerequisites, but must be processed prior to registration. Arrange for an official transcript to be mailed directly to UFV Admissions by the sending institution. Allow a minimum of two months for evaluation (longer if your documents originate outside BC). If there is not time to process transfer credits, you can seek a prerequisite waiver from the instructor.

Waitlists

If a class is full, and you cannot find another suitable section or course, you can put your name on the waitlist, provided the class fits your timetable. If you are registered in a course, you are not permitted to waitlist for another section of the same course. Prerequisites must be met. (See above.)

To obtain a seat through the waitlist before classes start…

Check Your registration details through myUFV at least once a week. If a seat is available to you, you will see the status Waitlisted seat on Hold. You should then register promptly. The Admissions and Records (A&R) office will also contact you (usually by mail) and will give you a deadline to register. If you do not register by the deadline, you will be removed from the waitlist. Be sure to keep your address current, and check myUFV often, or have someone check your mail if you are away.
Winter 2012 semester: After 4 pm, December 15, you will be able to waitlist only if prerequisites are on your record or you have a prerequisite waiver. All students lacking prerequisites will be dropped from the waitlist after 9 am, December 16.

To obtain a seat through the waitlist once classes begin…

Waitlisted students must attend the first class to be considered for a seat. If there are seat vacancies, the instructor will offer them to qualified students who attend the first class in the order of the waitlist.

For online courses, contact the course instructor by email, phone, or in person by the first day of class. If there is space for you, the instructor will enter permission or give you a signed Permission to Register form to take to a UFV Admissions & Records office. Then you must contact A&R to register within three business days by phone or in person.

Waitlisted for an online course?

If you are waitlisted for an online course, contact the instructor on or before the first day of classes for that semester, using your UFV student email account to inquire if there will be a seat for you or not in that section. Click here for more information.
