You can expect your Advisor to:

  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Be accessible for appointments in person or by phone or email to answer your questions.
  • Have a thorough understanding of the curriculum, graduation requirements, and university policies and procedures.
  • Provide you with information about and strategies for utilizing the available resources and services on campus.
  • Guide you in defining and developing realistic goals and monitoring your progress in achieving them.
  • Encourage and support you in developing clear and attainable educational plans and making effective decisions.
  • Articulate the connections between courses, co-curricular involvements, majors, and career plans

STUDENT/ADVISEES’ ROLE:

You are encouraged to:

  • Schedule regular appointments or make regular contact with advisors.
  • Come prepared to each appointment with questions, or bring material for discussion and participate fully in the advising experience.
  • Complete all assignments or recommendations from your advisor.
  • Clarify personal values and goals, and provide your advisor with accurate information regarding your interests, goals, and abilities.
  • Become knowledgeable about university programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Accept responsibility for your decisions.
