BC Centres Library Overview

The BC Centres Library contains resource collections from three co-located Centres; the Centre for Social Responsibility, Non-Profit Development, and Safe Schools and Communities. Each of the Centre’s resources compliments the work of the other centre's and benefits library clients by offering an extensive range of topics in specialized areas.

First established in 1998 as the Safe Schools and Communities resource centre in Burnaby, the Centre joined the University of the Fraser Valley/School of Criminology and Criminal Justice in 2004 where it operates today.The move resulted in an expansion of the BC Centre for Safe Schools and Communities collection in addition to engaging in research opportunities utilizing the expertise of university faculty. In 2005 the BC Centre for Social Responsibility was established followed by the BC Centre for Non Profit Development in 2006.

Today there are over 2500 resources in the collection in a variety of formats from print, DVD, video, to educational curriculums. Each Centre has its own specialized collection; the Centre for Social Responsibility provides educational resources and research information; Non Profit Development supports non-profit organizations, staff and volunteers; and Safe Schools and Communitities focuses on social issues related to children and youth. Sample subject headings from each Centre's collection are listed below;
