South American Odyssey
A blog by UFV Biology instructor Debbie Wheeler

At the end of August 2008, UFV Biology instructor Debbie Wheeler set off on an South American adventure that eventually led her to the Galapagos Islands. Her blog documents her journey and her adventures along the way, highlighting items of specific interest to current and future biologists.

Debbie's voyage coincides with Charles Darwin's 200th birthday, which occured on February 12, 2009. Darwin’s discoveries of unique flora and fauna in the Galapagos Islands are widely mentioned as being the source of his inspiration about evolution: descent with modification. Darwin spent a number of weeks in October 1835 sailing in and around the islands on his ship, the Beagle.  2009 is also the 150th anniversary of the publication of his famous book, On The Origin of Species.
