New direct-entry BBA degree
Beginning in the fall of 2010, high school students will have the option to enter UFV’s Bachelor of Business Administration program directly from grade 12. The change to the structure the BBA program is meant to bring it in line with other post-secondary institutions like UBC and SFU.

With the new “direct-entry” BBA, students who meet the entry requirements will no longer have to go through the hurdle of first applying to the Business Administration diploma, and then re-applying to the BBA program to complete their final two years. This also means that students in second year will no longer need to request a program waiver to take an upper-level business course.

The entrance requirements for the new “direct-entry” BBA remain unchanged with the following exception: students will require one provincially examinable grade 12 course (other than Math or English), with a minimum B grade.

Some of the other significant changes to the BBA include the following:

  • The removal of ECON 410 and  BUS 305, 400, 420, and 430 as core courses -- these slots will be available for students to select electives in their particular field of interest.
  • The re-sequencing of ENGL 105 and MATH 115 (now called MATH 141) from the third year of the program, to the first year; BUS 301 from the third year to the second year; and BUS 261 from the second year to the third year
  • The replacement of BUS 206 with BUS 405, which will now be taken in the fourth year of the program.
  • The prerequisites for many courses in the business program have also been changed.

Changes to Business Administration diploma
In order to give more students the opportunity to enter UFV’s business program, the UFV Senate recently approved several changes to the Business Administration diploma:

  • The math entrance requirement has been reduced from Principles of Math 12 with a C+ (or equivalent) to Principles of Math 11 with a C (or equivalent).
  • Students entering the diploma without Principles of Math 12 with a C+ (or equivalent) will be required to take MATH 140 (or equivalent).
  • English 105 is now a required course in the Business diploma while CMNS 251 is now an elective.
  • BUS 206 has been removed from the diploma
