Centre for Indo-Canadian Studies
Community leaders told us we needed a place to conduct urgent economic and social analysis to promote cooperation between Canada and India, and to advance international trade and development. We agreed, and in 2006, after three years of tireless campaigning in local communities, UFV officially opened the Centre for Indo-Canadian Studies (CICS).
The Centre for Indo-Canadian Studies is a hub of information for people who want to do business with India and who want to understand the relationships and opportunities between our two countries. It enhances the economic contribution of the Indo-Canadian community in British Columbia.
The Centre is a place for a wide range of learning activities and resource materials. It has become a national information repository, and a site for valuable social, cultural, and economic research.
The Centre is a catalyst for transforming UFV into a place that reflects the diversity in our region. Its work and programming is built upon existing courses in history, English, social work, philosophy, agriculture, and criminal justice programs, as well as in our Punjabi language courses. A new certificate program in India–Canada Studies brings the courses into a coherent and comprehensive field of study.
By providing the means to link business, industry, and education between our two nations, UFV is working hard to ensure its students are the first beneficiaries when they prepare to launch their careers.
