PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Welcome to UCFV! You have arrived at a time when the value of pursuing a post-secondary education has never been greater. The investment you will make during your studies here will be repaid many times and in many ways.

Some of your rewards will in the form of practical skills in your field, new career opportunities, and higher earning power.  But there will also be many intangible rewards. You will be rewarded with a greater understanding of the complex world in which we live. This will include more knowledge, a heightened sensitivity and awareness, an increased appreciation of the people you meet and the places you discover. You’ll also meet people and make friends that will be an important part of the rest of your life.

At UCFV you will find a unique learning environment. You will become part of “a community of diverse learners”. UCFV is proud that in many ways it reflects the broad multicultural mix that is the foundation and strength of Canada itself. UCFV offers a comprehensive array of programs that provide educational opportunities for people from a wide range of background, with a spectrum of interests, abilities, and goals. We are especially proud, as well, to be able to include a vibrant and varied group of international students who add yet another learning dimension for us all.

This diversity of people and programs provides an invaluable educational opportunity. Because UCFV classes are small you can get to know your professors and classmates. As well, you’ll discover many opportunities to get involved in extra-curricular activities such as student leadership, athletics, clubs, and many special projects that will enhance your classroom experience.  I strongly encourage you to take advantage of the many formal and informal opportunities for learning that take place outside the classroom.

I know that many of you will be juggling a number of complex elements in your lives. You will do this while adding on the demands of attending classes, completing projects, studying, and finding the resources to get you through. I hope that you take advantage of the many services that UCFV offers that can help you to keep your balance and make the most effective use of your time and energy.

Your time here will go quickly. It will be busy and challenging. I believe it will also be an incredible time of learning and growth and discovery.

I am very pleased to have you join our dynamic learning community.

Dr. H.A. Bassford
