Lab Skills Contest
From 1996 to 2005, local schools from the Fraser Valley were invited to enter teams of four Grade 12 students in the UFV Chemistry Lab Skills Contest. This contest was hosted by the Department of Chemistry in conjunction with National Chemistry Week. Team members spent a full day working in the UFV laboratories and completed at least two experiments: one quantitative, and the other qualitative. Teams were assessed on the basis of the accuracy and precision of their quantitative results and the quality of their qualitative work. Most recently, members of the winning team received $100 each, with smaller amounts being awarded to members of the second- and third-placed teams. The winning school received a plaque to keep for one year, and a reference book for use in its library or laboratory. All participants received a custom-designed T-shirt. The table below lists the winners of the contest in past years.
