The CCNS Concept

The CCNS program was developed within the folllowing guiding principles...

  1. Many students were requiring a faster pathway to meaningful employment.
  2. It was recognized that many students did not immediately require the level of education provided by a 4 year BCIS degree (nor could they afford the time).
  3. Many students were seeking a fast pathway to employment, but required assurances that a BCIS Degree could later be pursued with full credit applying.
  4. Many students were requiring increased lab practice and increased lab instruction.
  5. Additional state-of-the-art lab tools and equipment were required to complete many of the specific course objectives.

The CCNS Goal

To provide students with industry-specific skills and knowledge to enable enhanced employment opportunities in as little as 16 months, and to ensure that all completed course work would carry full credit into a BCIS Degree if a student later decided to pursue our BCIS degree.

Transition Phase (for existing CIS students)

The Fall 2008 and Winter 2009 semesters will be transition semesters for many CIS to CCNS students and courses.  During these two semesters, existing CIS students can expect to register in courses as they have done in past semesters.  At the same time, CCNS students will begin their studies in the Fall 2008.

CIS 392, CIS 394, CIS 321

These courses offered in the Fall 2008 or Winter 2009 semesters, will be offered as transition courses.  This means that existing CIS students will be able to take these courses the same as in past semesters.  Specifically, the lab model and the contact hours per week will be unchanged.  Student TAs will continue to cover the lab sections.

After the Winter 2009 semester has completed, these courses will transition to CCNS courses, and will receive significant revision suitable to the CCNS program model (they will still have the same credits and be equivalent for credit purposes).  This means that the lab model will change to that similar to the current CIS193/4 and CIS 293/4 courses, and that these course offerings will begin to be scheduled in ways more suitable to CCNS students (evenings).

CIS 292

The last offering of CIS 292 is planned for Fall 2008.  For semesters beginning Winter 2009 and onward, students should register in CIS 293 and CIS 294 in the CCNS program.  The curriculum content for CIS 293 and CIS 294 will be significantly enhanced in preparation for the CCNS program.

CIS 224

Beginning Winter 2009, this course will only be offered within the CCNS program model.
