What students are saying

Although there is not currently any CCNS graduate students, the following students have taken the majority of the courses within the CCNS program (2 or fewer courses remaining).

Here are their comments....

Justin, now working as a system and network administrator, attributes his success to CCNS courses....

"The courses in the CCNS program have been instrumental to my career.  They have allowed me to easily obtain employment, and succeed in my job.  The extensive hands-on experience in the lab has helped me to make our transition to a larger data center much less daunting.  In learning about new technologies on my own, such as VoIP, the learning curve was minimized thanks to the fundamentals taught in these courses."

Shaun, winner of the Provincial Gold and National Silver medals at the 2007 Skills Canada Network Support competition, now works for the District of Mission....

"I always found that the networking side of IT was of more interest to me than programming.  The courses offered in the CCNS program allowed me to specialize my education at UCFV (now UFV) towards networking and network security, and gave me the ability to learn with industry-leading technology and materials from their partnership with Cisco.  The experience I was able to take away from my education has been invaluable to me, as it landed me a great job as a network analyst and has served as a solid foundation for my most recent promotion to IT project coordinator."

Wim began his career working as a programmer and after completing systems and networking courses, including those in the CCNS, has moved up to a prestigious position as Systems Architect for a larger ISP.  He loved it so much that he has just recently started his own ISP serving the Chilliwack and surrounding area.  Here is what he has to say....

Having completed all but one CCNS course as part of my BCIS degree, I can say that this program is great way to not only pick up some Cisco certifications, but also to obtain valuable practical experience with advanced networking concepts. I have been able to apply the skills I learned to other vendors systems such as Riverstone, Extreme Networks, Juniper Networks, Hewlett Packard and even Linux.  For my medium and larger enterprise clients, I am continually applying my skills and knowledge; routing, firewalling, VPNs, VLANs, and VoIP, Radius server based authentication, load balancing to name a few.

There is a growing number of career opportunities available.  Industry is in need of employees who are willing to learn, troubleshoot problems, provide support and documentation and work with multiple vendors and vendor platforms.
