Managing Change
The ability to manage and lead through change successfully has never been more important than it is today – due to the ongoing global economic crisis. Managers are now forced to cut back staffing levels, and keep the remaining employees motivated when there’s not a lot of “pie” to split out when it comes to raise/salary appraisal time. Even though it’s important to cut cost, it’s also important to retain key veteran employees that are needed not only to help the company make it through the hard times, but also train staff during future growth. This course looks at current common changes in the workplace, such as downsizing, benefit cuts, new employee rules, system implementations, and shift work, all of which are rampant in the corporate world, and provides the students with the skills to properly communicate and delegate, while managing the change tasks.

Mediation Skills
This course introduces you to the concepts, skills, and techniques needed to mediate disputes: determining whether mediation is appropriate, the role of a mediator, guiding the process, managing emotions and using communication skills when mediating. Mediation is a practical method for helping people resolve their conflicts and attain mutually satisfactory outcomes. You will have opportunities to mediate simulated disputes involving co-workers, customers, committee members, neighbors, parents/teens and coparents. Emphasis is on skill development throughout. A digital recording will be made of your role-playing exercise on the final day of the course.

theoretical approaches to understanding the relationship between conflict and peace building; identify processes and skills of peace building and conflict transformation; develop your own peace building and conflict transformation skills; and demonstrate your ability to resolve conflicts peacefully.
