Cosmetic Dental Services: Tooth Whitening & Botox®
Currently the two top cosmetic dental services are tooth whitening and Botox® cosmetic services. Treatment is sometimes provided in a spa-like dental studio, but can just as easily be offered in your general dental practice. Today’s patients are interested in effective adjunct dental treatments that are safe and non-surgical to help “stop the clock” on the aging process.

We will discuss common tooth whitening options which are always changing and improving. The instructor will review the prognosis for whitening procedures for teeth darkened due to: age, tobacco, accumulation of surface stain, etc. Those attending are encouraged to participate by sharing personal experiences, asking questions and becoming involved in the discussion.

We will also learn about Botox® treatment to eliminate or minimize frown lines, forehead wrinkles, crow’s feet around the eye, and lip creases. The instructor will discuss contraindications, short term and long term prognosis, post-operative care and possible side effects.

Dental Care and Total Body Wellness
Participants will learn about treatments that may be available for patients with dental anxiety or dental phobias, including mind-body intervention such as meditation, imagery, relaxation, etc. Stress and anxiety are common in the dental practice (for both dental professionals and patients). Dr. Nima will share his own realizations in his personal attempts to manage anxiety through overall wellness, including exercise and diet. He will discuss the importance of balance to the body and balance to the mind.

Dr. Nima will review the concerns of TMJ dysfunction and the relationship to the spine. He will present treatment options in addition to the standards commonly used such as muscle relaxant drugs, painkillers, oral appliances, etc. We will consider how herbs, foods, vitamins, minerals, supplements and natural therapies can affect a person’s overall health.

Dr. Nima is passionate about going back to the basics and avoiding the toxins, non-foods and anti-nutrients that are commonly put into the body. He will share experiences of helping patients in their health, their healing and their recovery. He will help participants understand why patients may choose complementary and alternative procedures in addition to conventional dentistry.

Ergonomics in the dental practice will be examined and participants are encouraged to ask specific questions about their workplace environment in relation to a clearly functioning nervous system.

WHMIS
The dental employer is responsible to provide WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) instruction to employees who work in contact with materials defined as “hazardous”. In the dental office there are a wide range of materials and products that can be hazardous to a person’s health if they are not stored, handled and disposed of properly.

This course will provide an opportunity to review some of the common hazardous materials found in a typical dental office. Participants are encouraged to bring Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for products they have questions about.

An updated MSDS record is important for every dental practice. The instructor will review the important information that should be available for dental office employees and options available to store this information so that it is readily accessible at all times.
