Child Care Emergency First Aid Formerly Childsafe First Aid. This course is for parents with children up to 8 years of age and includes the current First Aid and CPR B guidelines. This course stresses emergency first aid procedures, recognition of home hazards, allergies, bleeding management, and child/infant CPR, including the following content:

Red Cross Standard First Aid This course provides comprehensive First Aid & CPR techniques for those who want more knowledge to respond to emergencies in the home or workplace. Occupational First Aid
Occupational First Aid Level I A one-day program designed to provide life-saving first aid skills to workers in industry, Occupational First Aid Level I covers the following items: • Primary survey • C - Spine control • How to clear an airway • Artificial ventilation • 1 person CPR • Detailed bleeding control • Shock management • Minor wound care • Burn management • Ligament and tendon problems • Poisons • No transportation, call an ambulance for all serious injuries
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to: • Perform the Priority Action Approach (to the end of the primary survey) for conscious patients and patients with a decreased level of consciousness. • Identify and perform appropriate critical interventions of the airway with C-spine control for conscious patients and patients with a decreased level of consciousness. • Identify respiratory emergencies and perform appropriate critical interventions. • Identify circulatory emergencies and perform appropriate critical interventions. • Identify and perform appropriate interventions for minor soft tissue injuries including the need for medical referral and be familiar with the required paperwork (first aid record and form 7A).
Manuals given out in class. Participants must be at least 16 years old. Certification is valid for 3 years upon successful completion of course.

Given an accident scenario with one casualty, each participant learns the following skills to the standard of performance outlined in the Occupational First Aid Level 2 training guide:
• Demonstrate the priority action approach to the completion of the secondary survey. • Demonstrate critical airway interventions with C-spine control and use of oral airways. • Identify respiratory emergencies and perform critical interventions with oxygen therapy equipment including bag valve mask. • Identify circulatory emergencies and perform critical interventions including one operator CPR. • Identify, assess, treat and refer to medical aid as required:
eye injuries soft tissue injuries environmental emergencies poisons ligament and tendon injuries
Participants must be 19 years of age and possess the physical ability to perform learning tasks. In addition, participants must have a good command of the English language and submit a Statement of Fitness prior to taking the final exam. Manuals can be purchased through UFV Bookstore. Certification is valid for 3 years upon successful completion of course. Personal pocket mask included. Practical exam takes place two days the following week.

Occupational First Aid Level III This WorkSafe BC course covers all medical techniques within the responsibility of the attendant at a workplace. The following items are covered: • Primary survey • C-Spine control • How to clear an airway • Artificial ventilation • Chest injuries with additional equipment (oral airways, O2 pocket mask, bag & valve mask) • 1 person CPR • 2 person CPR • Hard collar and spine boards • Leg splints and full immobilization • Transportation methods • Head and abdominal injuries • Frostbite • Hypothermia, heat stroke, heat exhaustion • Medical conditions • Poisonings • Detailed bleeding control • Shock management • Minor wound care • Burn management • Ligament and tendon problems • Poisons
