Nursing Foot Care This 7-day course is for currently licensed to practice RN’s and LPN’s (other licensed health care providers, e.g RPN, RMT, PT, and OT may be enrolled at the instructor’s discretion). Students MUST present written proof of current licensure on the first day. A holistic approach to foot care is presented. Upon completion, you will be able to identify and understand causes, prevention and treatment of various foot care disorders. You will understand factors affecting foot health and factors that put the foot at risk. Foot care within the scope of nursing practice will be discussed. This course prepares participants to provide nursing foot care services within a health care setting and in private practice. Practical advice regarding establishing a private practice is explored. Participants must complete a clinical practice component and an open-book examination (70% mark required). The manuals will be available for pre-reading after October 1st at the UFV Clearbrook Centre at a cost of $55 (cash or cheque only).
Do NOT purchase instruments or supplies prior to the course. Information regarding purchasing will be covered in detail. Students will need to bring 2 hand towels, a bath towel, a foot bath basin (any basin will do) and a skin lotion. Students will practice on each other, and are requested not to cut their toenails for 3 to 4 weeks prior to the course and to remove nail polish. Instructor is Susan Tremble, RN, BScN. Susan holds an Advanced Foot Care certificate from Durham College in Ontario. She has worked in various RN and nursing management positions over the years and has been responsible for providing educational programs for patients and staff.

Hearing Voices Simulation Workshop for Health Care Professionals The hearing voices simulation deems to be an effective experience offered to health care professionals as part of de-stigmatization of mental illness. An increase in empathy and sensitivity has been verbalized from health care professionals who have taken part in discussion after taking a simulation exercise. Participants will be able to critically review the impact of attained knowledge and experiences for application in their clinical practice when dealing with voice hearers. All activities will be in English so a good understanding of English is necessary. Participants must bring their own headsets. Please note: participants must not have had any previous voice hearing/auditory hallucinations experiences themselves.
