Gaining the skills you need to succeed with UCFV certificates

Looking to enhance your career prospects, but need to upgrade your skills? There is still time to apply to enter one of several UCFV certificate programs set to begin this summer and fall. The selection is varied, and includes Legal Secretary, Community Pharmacy Technician, Dental Office Receptionist, Floral Design, and the new Community and Workplace Leadership program.

"These certificate programs provide individuals with relevant and practical skills that meet the career aspirations of people in our community and the needs of employers in our region," says Continuing Education program director Barb Harms.

The Legal Secretary certificate program is ideal for people with secretarial experience who wish to upgrade their skills for the legal office, and work for public agencies or in the private sector. The Dental Office Receptionist and Community Pharmacy Technician certificate programs are entry-level programs that give graduates direct access to rewarding career opportunities.

Floral Design is a 12-week program that prepares participants for work in the floral industry. Community and Workplace Leadership is a Saturday-only program for people working in business, health, education, social services, and the volunteer sector, who are in, or want to prepare to take on, leadership roles.

"Our certificate programs meet rigorous academic standards, and our instructors are selected based on educational qualifications as well as current experience in the field," adds Harms.

"Furthermore, many of our programs are reviewed by an advisory committee comprised of people with expertise in the field, who help ensure that course content remains current and relevant."

"As a result of the quality and integrity of our programs we have a very positive reputation in the community. Many firms and organizations will hire only our graduates. I'm pleased to say many of our certificate students are offered jobs even before they officially graduate," says Harms.

For information on these and other certificate programs call Continuing Education at (604) 854- 4538 or visit the UCFV website at www.ucfv.ca/ce . Enrolment is limited, so applying early is advised.
