MEI basketball star to don UCFV colors

Abbotsford – Highly recruited Mennonite Educations Institute basketball star Michelle Buhler will pursue her post-secondary education close to home and join the UCFV Cascades next season.  Despite being hotly pursued by several other universities, the Abbotsford resident said her first choice is to stay in her hometown to play at UCFV.

“I have definitely, 100 per cent, decided to attend UCFV next year and I cannot wait to play there,” said Buhler. “I am so excited and I have heard only good things about the program.  Coach Tuchscherer seems like an amazing coach.”

Last week Buhler led the MEI Eagles to a fourth place finish at the BC High School AAA Provincials and was selected to the BC Championships’ First All Star team.  This season she averaged 18 points, 5 assists and 2.5 steals per game.  Along the way she earned MVP honors at the MEI Tournament, a 1st All Star Team selection at the Top Ten Tournament, Top Female Player at an International Tournament in Edmonton, and was a first All Star Team selection at the Fraser Valley Championships.

Cascades Head Coach Al Tuchscherer is pleased to welcome Buhler into the fold.

“Michelle has enjoyed a terrific season and we’ve been after her since early on,” said Tuchscherer. “She has some impressive talent and I’m confident she’ll fit in well with our system.  I’m looking forward to coaching her next season”.

The Cascades have won four consecutive BCCAA Championships and nine of the past 11.  This year’s squad is preparing to depart for Montreal on March 16 to compete in the CCAA National Championships where they will strive to earn UCFV’s first women’s national title.
