Impressive results for UCFV’s golf team
UCFV’s golf team, playing in their first year in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWAACC), placed highest of the four Canadian teams in the Conference championships that were played in Spokane, Wash., May 24 and 25.
NWAACC includes teams from British Columbia, Washington, and Oregon. UCFV placed sixth in a field of 13 teams. This was a tremendous accomplishment against established teams from schools with well developed programs. Many American colleges have professional coaches and scholarship incentives to attract student athletes.
Head golf coach, Sheldon Frank, a UCFV faculty member, was impressed with the team’s accomplishments on the second day of play.
“The team was able to hold it together in less than ideal conditions. Other teams struggled. Our players kept their focus,” said Frank. He added that course and weather conditions were not ideal for the competition.
Top players for UCFV at the conference championships were Brandon Gossett and Dave Green.
UCFV golf team member, Paul Hickey, was selected to the Northern Conference all-star team as one of the top four competitors this year in the Canadian schools, with a 73.9 scoring average over six competitive rounds.
