UCFV’s Jamie Born wins 2004 Basketball B.C. award

Abbotsford – Third-year UCFV Cascade Jamie Born has been selected as Basketball BC’s Female College Athlete of the Year. Born will receive her award at the Basketball BC Hall of Fame and Awards Banquet on May 1, 2004 along with the other award recipients in the high school, university, coach, and team categories. The banquet will be held at the Vancouver Hilton Metrotown in Burnaby, B.C.

This past season, Born played a key role in the Cascades’ undefeated regular season (18-0; 38-1 overall), and the team’s fourth consecutive BCCAA Championship capped off with a bronze medal finish at the CCAA National Championships last month. She was selected as a BCCAA First Team All Star, a Provincial Championship All Star, a CCAA All Canadian Team member and the BCCAA Female Basketball Player of the Year. The graduate of Sardis Secondary in Chilliwack posted per game averages this past season of 8.61 points; 6.94 rebounds; and 3.11 assists.

A third-year kinesiology student, Born is expected to dominate the BCCAA next season when she returns to complete her four years of eligibility. She is the second consecutive Cascade athlete to earn this honor, following in the footsteps of her teammate and last season’s CCAA National Player of the Year, Lauren Alonzo.
